Default Young adults and cars. Now and 15 years ago?

So was posting this in the Supra thread and realized it's an interesting enough topic to be its own discussion maybe. So, went to a yeg car meet and cruise yesterday, with at least 100 or so cars showing up. Lot of tuner crowd etc with younger kids so not quite my crowd.

But one thing that was evident to me was there are way more younger kids (young adults) these days with a lot more expensive cars than used to be the case say 15 years ago when I was in high school. Things like, 19 - 22 year old's with the new GTR's, modified like crazy, awesome wraps etc. I mean we all know these wraps cost $5K and even I don't just jump into getting one, though I would like one. Heard of another 19 year old kid in my area here with an Aventador. I just automatically assume it's his parents', but apparently the kid is the one who always has it.

But anyway, got me wondering why is this the case nowadays? Never used to be like this 15 years ago. Or was it and I just lived under a rock back then? More affluent parents being generous or younger kids being more self sufficient/earning with so many new money making options out there, like Youtube, Instagram etc?

    Thoughts?

Barlow is the same way every weekend. But it’s a mix of absolute shitboxes and very nice stuff.

It is interesting to hear the idea of younger kids being more self-sufficient when my day-to-day interactions seems to differ a lot. I find there is not as big of a car scene as before and more young people just care about going from A to B.

Also more brochure reading type of enthusiasts more than the die hard ones I knew back in the day when younger. That's just generalizing though, I am sure there are exceptions.

Parents with 7.2mill in the bank?

I mean good for them as it keeps the scene thriving. It's not my thing anymore but when I see a group of them chilling it does bring back memories of early Beyond days/meets/cruises.

Ever consider that you live in a posh neighborhood? Kids in my area don't even have cars.

Some kids probably even have to live in Aspen. Poor bastards.

Pretty much this. Anyone with a job can usually finance a car loan. Then drop the mods on the credit card and bam, ready for a car meet

OK, but he specifically mentioned "Aventador". That's a pretty big step change from anything resembling "normal" even if it's one around 4yo.
That's some pretty serious ass shit. I run with folks who have a gorgeous Huracan, NSX, and GT2-RS kind of shit and they have so fuckin much money, it's inconceivable so it's pretty odd to think of a borderline high schooler rocking an Aventador or a 488.
"Back in my day" the supposed "rich kids" had used Mustangs with headers, at best.
I totally agree that there's something weird about this. I've got plenty of disposable income (thanks restaurants being closed" and I cannot fathom giving my little shit weasels much more than the $400 Rabbit that I started out with!
Fuck them and the horse they ride in on!! You want to appreciate vehicles? Turn some wrenches on your shit-box and start figurin it out!

Idk I was in high school 15 years ago and kids like that were around back then as well. Knew a kid that got a new M3 for his 16th bday. Knew another kid that drove a 911 turbo, and subsequently basically had free access to a murcielago. shortly after high school

I think you were living under a rock

Drug money, same, same but putting the alpine in the 64 isn’t trendy anymore... plus dark web gives access to larger client base

Those old school drug money cars still had 6-figures... just easier to hide source now so can make bigger purchases from more reputable places

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.

Need to sue for copyright infringement, and collect the royalty cheque’s.

Then post a pic of your new Mclaren in the everyday cars thread!
