I believe it is for cost of living increase or something during pandemic. Ie have to take more cabs, Uber and buying hand sanitizer or something.

    Edit: it is

My mother got that and was baffled about it. Of all the demographics, seniors were least affected in financial terms.

I have a HKID and a HSBC account. What do i need to do?
If you have an HSBC international account (ie one that is a HK bank account as well as your canadian account) then you can sign up on their page and it will be deposited into your account in July.

they're typically on fixed income and the cost of goods and services has gone up quite a bit to compensate for the additional health measure they need to put in place... but really, this has been going on for 3+ months, $1000 is nothing spanned over that..

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

Apparently it's been the highest month to month increase since 74 in US.

My folks (well me, since I did all the shopping) switched to less busy Co-Op during the 1st month, grocery went up around 20%.

This sounds like a tax nightmare. The Hongkong one sounds like a CCP trap.
    How so?

My wife is an accidental American through my mother in law who moved here when she was 19... never filed a return after she left. 6 years or so ago, it was in the news that the IRS was targeting these people. I filed both hers and my wife's 3 years worth of returns through their amnesty program. Was very happy they both got these checks through snail nail along with a "personalized" letter from Trump himself (lol)...

As for taxes, worst case they'll have to report it as income on their T4s.

Bumping this thread...my dad just got his HK bucks.

I too have a HK ID, but I've never lived there nor do I intend to ever live there anymore. Does anyone have a link to the official rules? I don't want to break them and get hunted down by the CCP...

    Edit: NM, found it

I don't qualify, mine is not a permanent card.

Applying for the money is not much of a problem, accessing the money from here is the tricky part.

Yea, that's the easiest way. Got mine done.

What you need is your HKID and a HK phone number that can receive SMS. Download the ZA Bank app, and have someone buy a SIM card in HK and stay on the phone with them while you setup your account (it needs the code within 60 seconds to activate the account). Once the account is activated, it does a HKID scan to get all the information, validate it's a real card, then it'll scan your face to make sure it's you. Account is up and running at that point. Setup an email, verify the email, and further correspondence is then through email and can toss the SIM. Once all that is done, scroll through to the Cash Payout Scheme banner, one click, register, and a week or 2 later you have $10k in your account.

After that, transfer it all to a friend's account, and have them wire you the money. It's all in English too. Super easy.
