Default Alberta to hold referendum on equalization in 2021; Kenny's Fair Deal

Looks like Albertan's will be headed to a referendum. How many questions on the ballet is still TBD.

It's too bad the rest of the recommendations are not listed. I wonder if this is the ground work for a vote on PST as well.

Lol, because Albertans saying they want a change, will actually make the feds listen? That's a laugh.

don't worry, the feds will be "morally obligated" to have the discussion

Ya that wording isn't reassuring. But that is just in regards to Equalization. Could be lots of other things us Albertan's can actually vote in.

Waste of money IMO ... its just a political stunt Kenney will use to stoke the AB vs Canada fires for his future campaigning. I doubt the referendum will ask things in a unbiased way just like the BS electoral reform survey the Liberals did before.

Still it's a necessary prerequisite to other steps

How much have we spent on 'blue ribbon' panels to date? Why do we bother if they just regurgitate what ol' kenney wants?

tell you what, you can move to an AB pension if the government has zip zero nada to do with its investing directions. No more propping up shitty businesses or investing in pipelines.

Are we hoping that the APP will be less systematically racist? Or just more effective at it?

That will never happen. But will make idiots who think separation is an option happy.

    Kenny in a couple years:

"We tried our best! i'm out of here, good luck everyone!"

Kenny still thinks a populist movement will win at the fed level in Canada.

But everywhere but Alberta is good with the status quo.

Also where would the funding for this police force come from?

From all the money we currently pay to rent RCMP officers?

The RCMP don’t do it for free.

No idea on which option is actually cheaper. But that’s the premise.

From the funding we currently pay the RCMP?!?!? Jesus

Essentially this would be the Alberta version of the O.P.P....no RCMP aside from major crimes and maybe remote locales

Oh I didnt realize that, I thought it was just a service the feds pay for like the national parks that are in Alberta or any federal service.

“The referendum would, however, morally obligate the federal government and other provinces to come to the table and negotiate the proposed amendment to the Constitution,” it says.
This sounds about as rational as Notleys BS 'social license' for us to develop and expand pipelines.

It's pointing a gun into your own head to demand money at a teller.

A.P.P will cost more than RCMP because you have to set up a new structure from top down.

Getting out of CPP sounds good now. Won't be in 20 years when the resource economy is totally done and there is nobody or growth funding it. And AIMCO ain't saving our asses.
