Default Electric, Gas or Induction range?

Looking for a new stove and its currently set up for electric but a lot swear by gas. I was leaning towards electric again because its already set up and safer for the kids(i think) but since this is going to be our stove for awhile i want to get something good. Whats every ones take?

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

If it's relatively easy to add gas I say do it, I love my gas oven and cooktop. Odds are it may not be easy or inexpensive to add though, depends on your house.

I have one of those standalone induction burners for the odd time I may need it but now that I've gone to gas in this house I'll never go back.

Yeah, if you have an unfinished basement, run gas, because it's cheap and easy. If you'd have to rip apart your basement, then induction. Non-induction electric is a no from me dawg.

Gas all day, induction if you live in Aspen. Induction is better at transferring heat IMO, but there's also the chance that you'll have to replace all of your cookware if it's not induction-compatible.

    Gotta be induction or gas.

Induction is nice, I used to be an advocate for it until we bought a house that had a gas stove. The major downside to induction for us is that we were always a little concerned about damaging the cooktop (scratches or whatever). Gas is just as easy to clean, and bulletproof.

Can't roast marshmallows over an induction range. Just saying.

Induction will also likely need a larger conductor and breaker if the house is older.

Looks like gas it is..... Basements unfinished so it should be easy to run a line. Ive never used gas before and my daughter will be using the stove pretty soon, is it stupid of me to think her hair can catch on fire if shes not careful? Please dont flame me for that last one

Humans have been cooking over open flames for a few thousand years now, a little bit of good parenting and she should be fine.

Induction will never start a fire. I can put paper towel under a pan frying bacon up, and it barely even yellows.

Gas is nice too, but my wife constantly boils over and spills shit. So cleaning out would be a chore.

Induction is my vote. We use it and it's awesome. Most our pans were already magnetic so worked well. Ours has power boost....boils water in 60 seconds. Makes stove top noodles as fast as a microwave. Gas is a pain in the ass since you have to get it ran if you don't have it already, and nothing is easier to clean than a flat surface Also cats can't burn down the house, at least not with the range.

Gas is so good but be aware that if you have white walls, it will yellow. Just have to wash the walls once a month or something with vinegar.

Induction is my vote too. The cooktop won't even activate unless there is a pot ready to accept the heat. That's super nice for those who need to worry about little kids etc. I got fed up with the conventional electric as they just cycle between burning and off, so it's harder to control the mid range temperatures. It's basically always clean because food never burns to it.

Thats what we liked about induction, super kid friendly. Valid point about the cleaning of the gas, i boil over all the time haha.
@flipstah what to you mean about walls yellowing? Are you talking about the back splash right behind it or the actual surrounding walls?

Mostly the backsplash but if your hood fan is good, it shouldn't be that bad. I can't say about the surrounding walls.

One other thing about induction is you won't be sweating as much when cooking over it like you do with gas and electric because of the residual heat.

Induction because I prefer impotency over schweaty balls. Buy a cheap induction only if you want to run the risk of having to replace control boards every 3-5 years.

I'll be the odd vote and maybe it's the stove or maybe the cookware.. but I have had 2 induction tops and hated both.

Water was slow to boil and cooking took forever.

I prefer either gas or electric coil.
