Does anyone in Calgary/ area do key programming and cutting for BMW?
Stealer wanted $600 for a new key so I bought a knockoff one on ebay. It might work, might not.
Mostly I want a backup hard key so i can at least get in the car for emergency.

This is the pay to play they refer to when talking about euro cars...

Yes I know euros are pricey.
By law manufactures can't stop licensed locksmiths from cutting and program a key from any manufacture.
Provided they have tools. Just looking for a locksmith with BMW tools.
ecuprogram?

Normally, you'd be right. That's the going rate for basically any smart key though. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Last one I had to replace was for a 10 year old lexus, still upwards of $600 at the dealer.
Buddy of mine had to replace a prox key for his focus, and it was going to be $450 or something.
Why call it stealer? It's as simple as this, can you readily buy a 100% reliable key at a much reduced price elsewhere? If not, then they're not stealing your money - instead it's more a case of that you bought into a system/product line and now you are upset that your pocketbook is going to take a hit to play. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Finally got around to dealing with this.
B&W locksmiths was able to provide and program a key for $150 less than the dealer.
So they carry blanks as well? The one you bought on ebay couldn't be used? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Well you see.. I forgot to check which frequency key fob I bought.
The ebay one was 868MHz for Europe while North American models uses 315MHz.
So had to pay for a new fob anyway. B&W guy had a blank in his mobile workshop ready to go.
