Rage2 did you have any luck with the original carpet floor mats you were looking for?

Just to confirm, you want the tan OEM ones right, not the black ones? I see in your pics there are black floor mats in it, but I'm assuming those are aftermarket non-factory mats.

I think the car came with tan floor mats, and the ones I have are (I think) oem 93 black mats. A set came up for sale 2 years ago, nothing since. I’ve been trying to hunt for photos to correctly identify what actually came with the cars that year. There are various styles of mats from what I’ve seen. Ones like mine where the Miata script is on a separate piece of fabric and sewn on, and others where the Miata script is embossed into the carpet.

So yea I’m still not 100% sure what’s original factory that came with the tan interior for 93, still working on that. Fairly sure it’s these ones tho:

The last new set sold 2 years ago. They randomly pop up here and there.

Refreshing mechanicals this week! New belts all around, fixing the A/C, new brakes, new flywheel, new clutch, new pressure plate while it’s out there. No more leaks! The original clutch was nearing the end of its life so the timing was perfect. Getting a custom alignment done, and compression test to see how the engine is doing. 14” wheels should be back this week as well. Then off for a full detail to clean up 27 years of engine bay grime.

I’ll probably be repainting the whole car at some point, the original single stage paint is gone, or at least clear coated over. So don’t feel as bad repainting the whole car anymore. Just trying to decide if I want to really keep it original by painting it with single stage no clear coat and PPF over it, or a proper paint + clearcoat job + PPF. The factory rock guard is kinda odd, they applied the rock guard first then painted over it. Again, not sure if I want to keep that or not. Have to figure out how well PPF applies to a non smooth surface.

    Decisions decisions.

I can't find new carpet floor mats. Mine are pretty beat, and I'd love to find a new set or 2. @legendboy if you can ask your neighbor if they know where to source them, that'd be great. Thanks! Mazda dealer told me to randomly call dealers throughout Canada, he suspects there might be a set sitting in a back room somewhere. Might do that on a day off this week and hope to get lucky.
Neighbour has been on vacation. I wonder how much a custom set would cost. Exact replicas minus the style of the rubber undersides.
I've hunted lots of rare parts by settling in for a few hours, picking up the phone and start calling. I always ask whoever i am talking to for ideas or leads!
If the paint isn't great I would personally go for a respray. Need someone good who will do it properly. Don't want overspray tape lines showing inside door jambs etc.

    Fun project for sure!

There’s replica carpets out there, but I’m just going to be patient and try to find some NOS first.

I can already see where the new paint overlaps the original paint in the door jambs.

I went to @gpomp already. All I got from him was an offer to buy the car off me.

There’s lots of small dings that went thru to the paint. And cracked paint as well. It needs a respray on half the panels. Might as well do the whole car.

My son pointed out your car and loved the color haha. We were out for an early morning Big Bucket run. Also ran into the Tunerworks RWB 911 there. All the car guys are out today.

Wow that car is a unicorn, hard to find an original one these days, enjoy it! Did you find it weird getting into a manual transmission car again?

Also any idea where you are going to paint it? I need to do a full repaint of my old IS300 one of these days...

+1 waiting for his recommendation so I can bring the Mini in also. British Auto Specialists is booked solid with restorations.

Thanks man. Manual wasn’t weird at all, even with the small footwell in the Miata. I have big feet, size 13, so I adapted my heel toe downshifting years ago by using left toe right toe method. Came back to me instantly shifting like a champ.

Not sure when I’m repainting the car at this point, trying to source a used hardtop to restore so I can do it all at once. Went to shadow tinting last week to get some guidance on ppf if I went full original single stage paint with the factory stone guard. They said it’ll be a difficult job installing on the stone guard sections but doable. That way I can go full oem paint and wrap the whole car, and seal it.

The factory paint is single stage no clearcoat, and the rock guard is a rough texture applied before the paint, then painted over with single stage paint. Weird shit.

Oh, team big feet heel toe representing here:

Haha same boat here, size 13 as well. I am debating about repainting my current car, or selling it and finding a LHD FD shell to build up a 2J of LS swap car (which would likely need paint too)!

Got the wheels on today. Thanks to my bro @MrX for doing a quick polish on the car in exchange for some BBQ pork and duck rice. Years of crap on the paint magically removed. Also found some original paint! The trunk and mirrors still had the original single stage paint. Good baseline for the repaint job. Oh yea, the car feels so much faster on 14s lol.

    Oh shit yeah. Love it.

Don’t let your bro drive it. Assuming same bro, lol.
