that is comfortable, with lots of power that can handle passengers, what would you look at? Ive always been a crotch rocket guy, but now thinking about a cruiser...yamaha roadstar has come up alot, but i know nothing about cruisers.

Get a power cruiser like a vmax or something. Fits your criteria, not slow as balls like a normal cruiser will be, and a little different.

Road stars are for grey haired trailer trash.

Edit: or an older sport tourer like an fjr1300 or st1100. They might not look like much, but great for a passenger, still quick, and 10x better in corners than a cruiser.

I am an old grey haired trailer trash type lol im looking more at what can be made into a bit of a bagger. I'm not looking to go real fast, my kid will be on it with me.

That being said, its still gotta be over 1300cc.

Yeah that makes sense. I’ve had lots of bikes over the years (and ridden bitch on a bunch of my dads as a child)... you’ll probably wanna go faster than you think (im sure you know how this works if you’ve had a sport bike) Its easy to be a passenger on a sport tourer going quickly; I haven’t ridden on the back of a cruiser being ridden in anger, but I guarantee it’s not easy/fun.

Honda VTX1800, Suzuki M109R both are rock solid, make great road bikes and you can go hard bags and a wing if you wanted that look. Yamaha Roadstar would be another one I would look into for under $5000 if you want that style. If you would like to stick to sport id go ZX14 or Busa. My favorite touring bike is my ZX14, comfortable, fast, lots of room for side bags/storage etc.

EDIT: forgot about the Vulcan as well, I believe you can get them in 1500-1700cc choices.

Why not try a sport touring bike? These can be had for very cheap and are very nice for longer rides.

The FJR and Concours would be some other great ones in this segment. Very common to have over 200k miles easily.

Great bikes all around. The windshield just makes so much sense. Good passenger comfort as well. ABS is a plus too.

Honda VTX1800, Suzuki M109R are both great bikes. Own a 109 myself.
Also look into the Yamaha Raider or Stratoliner. Both are 1900cc. Just not sure if you'll find one in that price range...

I do ride with a guy that has an FJR and he's always much more comfortable than me and others on our cruisers. That bike seems fantastic if you're into sport touring models.

Personal experience FJ09, or FZ1. With a top case for pillion back-rest, these bikes are plenty comfortable and have power for overtaking or wheelies. Also extremely reliable and relatively cheap to mod. Worth the step up for adjustable suspension.

Considered older Harley's? Can they be had for under $5K?

Not one you'd have much faith in. A sporty can be had for that but it’s small for 2 and only a 883 or 1200cc. Any Softail or Dyna would be a basket case or tons of miles.

Well, if the objectively best choice of a sport tourer is out, I still think a power cruiser is worth taking into consideration.

You dead set on a bike with 1300CC or more? I think that narrows down the options quite a bit.

My bike is 750CC and I've never thought it to be slow or not powerful enough. But then again I am a very casual rider.
