We're already doing that with inedible corn though. You know, that totally environmentally friendly ethanol.
Yeah, and we could talk about organics too... Why feed thousands when you can feed dozens.

    Our world has gone mad

Well, technically if someone could create a grass that looks like lawn, but when cut has extractable equivalent to sunflower oil. You could technically run your car off lawn clippings. Of course that would create its own problem, as grass fires would take on a whole new meaning.

Dandelion does not create said easily extractable biofuel.

As a side note: West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee still allow for mountain removal. Yes, they absolutely demolish entire mountains for coal. How many mountains are left? Not as many as one might think. If someone found a coal seam under mount Rushmore, would the USA take it down? No. Would China do it? In a heartbeat.

Is Germany smart for moving away from low-grade lignite (the only thing left in the immediate area?) I'd say yes.
