From worst to least worst: r/canada, r/alberta, /rcalgary

Reddit in general is more left leaning and the altruistic solution to all our problems seem to be that we can learn to code away our economic woes by diversifying into tech startups and renewables.

Can we change the thread title to "Shitty Subreddits" or "Reddit is so left-wing and stupid, why does anyone bother to read it"?

Yea, probably more fitting. I wasn't sure if it would be cool to post about another message board on Beyond but given the general consensus is that it's shit it doesn't seem any mods here would care.

The strange thing is, every other sub I'm a part of is productive, interesting, and helpful. It's only r/Calgary, r/Alberta, and r/Canada that are full of hateful groupthink trash. Scary what's happened to this country.

I wonder what makes beyond different? It seems that there are educated voices on all sides of the spectrum here and that most of the discussion is accepted and valuable. Couple outliers obviously..

What exactly do people using Reddit and having different opinions than you say about the state of this country or what's happened to it?

Addressing the original question, I don't think many people - if any, really - genuinely believe that we can just drop O&G like a bad habit overnight.

But a lot of people would LOVE to see us give a shit about an industry that wasn't O&G. I'm one of those people.

Do you know what I find hilarious (in a "my fortunes are tied to this joke of a province and this is super unfortunate" kind of way)? That people, both on beyond and in the province at large, believe that doubling down on O&G is the path to prosperity.

What's that saying about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

Beyond is one of the least unreasonable forums I've ever used.

Well, technically before the interwebs - people had to fly every weekend to Cabo San Lucas to have a little bit of fun and explore some bat caves. Now that no one can fly to Cabo, maybe the tech people were right. Tech right now is probably the only thing keeping people sane. If we build three pipelines to the USA does that mean that 10,000 people can fly to the moon to play three holes of golf, and bring back space cooties? Probably, but is that really what the majority of people want at this particular point in time?

As a stock: Ford did great for its time. In our time Google is king. What will be the future: Probably not oil.

So y'know: The young people, Gretas have spoken. Ultimately, the young generation wins: Unless we go full lobster immortal.

One of the biggest problems the country (all western democracies?), is the consequences people face when they do state a different opinion. And, to clumsily use the Left/Right descriptors, it's the Left that is guilty of the aggression on this front.

lol sure, it's the left driving cars into crowds, shooting up places of worship, and so on.

Mate, you're a smart guy, but this comment suggests that you're as biased and out of touch as everyone else.

The concept of cancel culture and punishing dissent against groupthink is overwhelming a leftist agenda.

That is hilarious. Most people on r/alberta believe r/canada is ran by far-right nazi's. There was a petition going around for the removal of far-right nazi mods recently.

The place is a total shitshow.

I mean, they did post evidence backing up their claims. So there's that?

This is from r/alberta from back in Feb. I took a screenshot because I knew something would come up where I'd just love to post it.

There's all sorts of these types of posts on r/alberta.
