Started as outfitting my house, but now have gotten into collecting Mid Century Modern (mostly Danish) furniture. Its a battle to get anything good on Kijiji/Facebook marketplace (basically have to message the person within the first 10 mins of it being posted) and buying from stores or shipping can get quite expensive.
Last chair I got was on Kijiji... a dealer beat me to it and then decided it was too much work to restore so I got it from them. Its a very well known desinger and manufacturer (Finn Juhl-France and Sons) so I figured it was worthwhile and could pay off if I sold it later on.
With the help of a friend we stripped the paint, rebuilt 3 supports that were previously redone poorly and now the chair is off for new upholstery and beech frame is being tinted and oiled. (I think its oil being used, could be a varnish)
Black frame picture is the condition I got the chair in (black isnt original, so it had to go) and then second picture is stripped down and sanded, but still with original upholstery. As much as I wanted to keep it looking 100% original, beech wood is an odd color that can turn pinkish after time and most of my other furniture is teak or rosewood so I decided to have it tinted.
If the chair was listed in a shop redone the retail would be ~$3k and I am currently into it for around $1,500 so not doing too badly.
