Social crying is definitely a thing. That's why things like Ferber extend the length between check ins, so the kid know they can't just cry and summon you.

I feel like we are off-topic enough now, that I can ask this unhelpful question, but does the ferber method sound like the absolute hardest method for the parent? Like, "cry-it-out" is hard enough, but ferber sounds 10x worse. Ah whatever, you gotta follow your own style as a parent in any case. Thoughts and prayers to parents of infants. So glad I'm long past that.
IMO it depends on the parent. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Cry it out, or extinction is the "fastest", but the "hardest". You drop the kid off in their crib and let them cry until they pass out.
Ferber, or graduation extinction is one step down. You check in every x amount of minutes (that spread out the longer the training goes on).
Pick up/Put down is one step down, because you're allowed to pick up the kid when you check in.
Then there's fading. Where there's no training, just a slow gradual transition from rocking them to sleep until you get to the point you can put them down drowsy and walk out.
It's a scale, and it depends on your goals, timelines, and tenacity. The harsher the training, the faster it goes.

Before we started sleep training my son and we were rocking him to sleep or he was sleeping on me in the chair in his room there was definitely times I would wear ear muffs. Quickly graduated to a nice pair of the 3M ones with blue tooth in it and it made those first couple months much much easier. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Ferber is the hardest because it's not a consistent leave them alone or rock them to sleep. You basically have to set at timer for yourself for check ins. It's not as fast but it prevents the guilt that comes with the extinction approach. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Yeah, I'm no expert and my kids are old now.
So. 2024.
Anyone got any good slim carseat recommendations?
Looking to procure another to keep a seat in the M2 permanently as swapping it last year led to the car getting very little use.
I like my Diono 3QX, but it is admittedly a bit much when all I need is a harness booster. Kid isn't quite ready for a basic booster though.
Anyone have any recommendations? Really hoping to get away from a convertible if I can to slim things down. Have been borrowing the 911 forums a bit on the topic but curious if beyond has any ideas?
At this point im considering the Diono 3R, basically the older version that seems a bit less... Substantial.

Talking about growing up so fast, the big topic of discussion in my house this week is grade 9 math. There's been some big emotions on that topic. Decided I'd better check my attitude and test myself. Did the online practice PAT from https://questaplus.alberta.ca/app/practice-test-access.
Scored 48/50.
Some real talk with the kid about Khan academy, the merits of Math 10-15, and how to pull the grades together before the end of the grade 9 year.

lol what is 10-15?
Have they just continued to obfuscate the numbering to make kids feel less bad for failing math?

10-15 is a weird hybrid course. It's basically "remedial math 9" plus regular math 10C so that by the end of grade 10, you have 10C and are ready for Math 20-1 if you do well.
Not every high school offers it, some do in-school, others you take the first bit in summer school.
Means a kid who fucked around in grade 9 doesn't automatically go into math 10-3, which is the "vocational math" stream or whatever they call it. We used to call it dummy math but I think the naming has changed.

We has general or advanced for Math and English. Seems easier to follow rather than whatever this ranking system is....This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Plus, 10-15, which is not even shown.... It's a lot.

We need a "criticsm of the school system" mega thread.
