Ha, I got Norwalk so bad once I threw up about 200 times in one night. I took an ambulance to the hospital where they shot me with fentanyl, it finally stopped the vomiting.
Junkie
Jeez, my kid goes tot he E Coli daycare and we haven't had any GI bugs brought home thank christ.
Plenty of BS colds though

We're struggling with early starts. Kid will easily go down between 7-8pm every night, and consistently wake up at 5:30am every morning.
We're trying everything to make that later. She's also awful at naps. Will go down super easy, but only stay down for like 40-50min.

How young are they? 8 PM to 5 AM is amazing for the early years. And a 45 minute nap is also super common and actually awesome. You sound like you have a situation many parents dream about.

Where do I sign up for 45 minute naps?
Yea that sounds like a pretty reasonable night time sleep to me, my kid is down around the same time and is usually starting to make noise around 5-5:30.
Oh, and get ready to kiss those 45 minutes of nap goodbye. That doesn’t last.

I'm with ES on that one. I have a 2.5 year old that sleeps great and a 5 month old. If your child is sleeping 7-8pm through the night until 5:30... I'll gladly trade haha. That said, only 2 wake ups last night so we classify that as a great night. (11:15pm self soothed back to sleep - 2:30am feed)
For reference, our 5mo naps 9-11am, 1-2pm and 4-4:45pm. Goes to bed 7pm. Typically been waking up around 10pm, self soothes back to sleep generally quickly, wakes 12-1am for a feed and generally between 3-4am for a feed and sleeps until 6 something. This is a typical "good" night. We've been working on nights like last night and better for the last 10~ days sleep training.

There are some ten year olds who don't sleep 9 hours a night.

Affects my wife much more than me as I'm a much more sound sleeper than her but still sucks nonetheless. Our first definitely spoiled us with sleeping well pretty much right away. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The naps are supposed to be 90 minutes. They're severely overtired during the day. 5 months old. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'd almost prefer a mid-night feeding. At 5am, I might as well get up, because I'm not getting kiddo back down.

There are parents of toddlers that don’t have to get up every day at 5AM?
Weird

Hey man, I don't know your kid and I'm not an expert. But one thing I've been trying to do in my own life to encourage an attitude of gratitude is to image how many people would gladly trade places with me.
If the kid needs more sleep, well you are the best judge of that. Just saying it could be a lot worse!
One of my kids at about 4 months old didn't sleep more than 45 minutes at a time, at all, for about 4 weeks. Shit gets crazy in a hurry with that schedule let me tell you!

Parent pro-tip, there is no "supposed to be". There is no normal. Children are chaos and every one of them is different. The sooner you acknowledge this, the better your mental state will be.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

We are close to 7 months with our little guy and he still does not like sleeping. For about a month or so in between he was sleeping somewhat at okay at nights at least but that hasn’t been the case for a while either. During the day putting him for naps is a mission and he only sleeps when he is in our arms. The moment you put him down he wakes up and cries. And since he doesn’t sleep much (except after a day or two of being overtired) he’s typically cranky during the day and only does short 30-40 mins naps in the arms. It is what it is at this point, just gotta suck it up and deal with it. We will likely look into a nanny soon but wife doesn’t trust anyone but herself and me to deal with him when he’s being particularly difficult. Just gotta keep pushing through, he’s gotta stop at some point.
Just keep powering through. MOAR coffee. Our girl is 5 mo now. Last 1.5 months has been hell as she has been waking after 25-30 mins like clockwork (I think I posted re this before, but at this point my memory is foggy lol). Its still happening like that for naps but at night time there seems to be some improvement with 2-3 hr stretches. Nanny has been particularly helpful to have during this period as she can do the naps + hold baby during those naps so there is potential for parent to rest during that time.
We are on the same schedule as @brucebanner . Sleep by 7pm. Awake at 10-11. Then 2-3. Then 4-6:30ish.
This thread has been helpful to hear about others being in the exact same situation. Reassuring.
