I would honestly recommend a simple timer thermostat. The smart features of these expensive ones are not fully utilized unless you have a new home with a fancy HVAC system.
My Lyric T5 is used for nothing more than a scheduled, timed thermostat that I can control from my phone. Big whoop.

Not familiar with the Ecobee system, but something I do like about the Nest is the remote sensors - since our home only has a single thermostat, We have sensors in the basement and upstairs as well and have the system set to control those areas at certain times during the day, or I can switch to them whenever I want to set the temp in those rooms. I presume the Ecobee probably has something similar available.

The remote sensors on my ecobee are a killer app for a house with lots of variability in temp.

Yeah ecobee was the first to do the remote sensors. Nest copied them (not that it really matters).

According to that, another negative with Nest sensors is they don’t do presence detection - only temp. Not really a huge deal for most people unless you want to get really fancy with automation.

I just have a very hard time investing even a single additional dollar into the nest ecosystem considering how google has operated it

Yea the occupancy detection is huge. You can choose which sensors to use throughout the day, then it automatically optimizes in use rooms for temperature management. I haven’t touched the ecobee programming for years. Just does everything right. Hot pot dinner? The AC going to go full blast to keep kitchen and living room cool even if other rooms are freezing.

I have some expensive fancy ass Honeywell wifi thermostats in my house and they are complete junk. Once I figure out how to get off my wallet I am going back to ecobee for sure, the app was great to use and the actual thermostat was great.

How on Allah's Green Earth does a device preferentially heat a room without controlling the dampers??!

You pray the heat molecules to stick to the sides of the bulkhead.
Then when needed they go into the room of your thinking and the sensor takes care of the rest.
Really it's all scientific but it works.

It doesn't heat or cool a single room. It just prioritizes the temp there, and doesn't care how hot or cold the other rooms are.

Which sucks balls and isn't efficient, at all.
If the rest of the house needs to heat to 26 in order to keep me comfy at 21.5 in my home office, it's not a real solution. I could've manually set an ancient mercury T-stat to 26 and got the same thing.
The technology is wasted without auto actuated dampers. It's donut spares on a Ferrari.

    Who said anything about efficiency.

Thanks everyone, ecobee sounds perfect. Just need to verify how many wires are in the wall tonight before I purchase.

Is there enough room to mount the ecobee?

It's a big wall. And apparently I have 4 wires for the thermostat plus another 2 separate for the humidistat. Ecobee does humidity right?

The lite does not do humidity. You have buy the more expensive non-lite version.

I think I need that for the remote sensor anyway.

Don't put the sensor in the master bedroom. 100% humidity all night.
