How do you guys out on our acreages watch netflix or use any high traffic service?
For sure. I'm doing a video conference for work right now. I watch netflix all the time. This is with Telus Smart hub. You can go to telus.com, find your location, and see if you qualify in the country. I'm got the antenna above to try and hog some of the bandwidth and up my bars to add speed consistency.
    I get 250Gb/month for $85. I've never gone over.

My parents have a Telus hub and pay 75$ for 500gb, I was actually surprised how cheap it was (they came from satellite internet that was crazy expensive beforehand.
We tried the hub but on our property is just doesn't get enough signal to work properly. We has less than a single MB of download speed at the best of times. So painful if you have no line of sight to a tower!

You would be surprised how maneageable streaming is at 5-10mbps. We get low data rates but unlimited data which is nice.

I wouldn’t plan on downloading an Xbox game in 20 minutes though lol.

Has anyone that signed up for this test actually used the system yet?

A Native American tribe in a remote part of Washington has been "catapulted into the 21st century" after getting SpaceX's Starlink internet.

The Hoh Tribe, which is based on the Pacific coast, roughly 23 miles south of the town of Forks, said on Twitter this week it was now receiving a high-speed connection from the constellation of satellites blasted into orbit by Elon Musk's company.

"What a difference high-speed internet can make. Our children can participate in remote learning, residents can access healthcare. We felt like we'd been paddling up-river with a spoon... SpaceX Starlink made it happen overnight," it tweeted Wednesday.

I have been on the beta list but haven’t been called.

Elon must have read my forum posts.

I’m hoping they come out with a hand held unit you can just plug into your computer from anywhere. For work the places I go I am lucky if I can tether my phone.

Saw this on reddit just now:

    https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-2896

Starlink wants to become a new ISP in canada, and the guy who created this petition wants the govt to expedite their request.

    https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2020/10/spacex-starlink-public-beta-begins-its-99-a-month-plus-500-up-front/

Musk recently said that the public beta will be for the Northern US and "hopefully" Southern Canada
Pricing $99USD a month with $500 upfront - speeds 50-150 Mbps with a latency between 20ms and 40ms. No datacap. Latency expected to improve to 16-19ms next summer.

Telus and Shaw are going to up their game with pricing. Still a joke in Canada compared to the rest of the developed world.

If you are on the road a lot, this means WIFI literally everywhere you go.

This will open up brand new frontiers and tech. Tele medicine for eg. in rural communities, and also the increased opportunity for people to move away from cities if they can just work from home.

It still requires a pretty hefty dish setup so I wouldn’t count your chickens before they hatch on portability.

But for an RV or a remote cabin, this is pretty awesome.

$99 USD a month? I thought Shaw and Telus were expensive.

    Satellites cost more than fibre.

Currently paying $70 for 6 mbps at the lake so this is a bargain.

Compare Xplornet et al and the game changes. This is a great option for my acreage.

Incredible option for rural. If this has a month-to-month option I'm in.

In places like rural Finland, they have had, unlimited, 20-30mbs LTE in the middle of the forest for at least a decade (and probably Sweden too). Finland is the area size of BC.

I know because I used it..... lol

    About time we caught up.
