So it's been 2 weeks on Telus 3Gb internet and I have been averaging 1.4-1.7Gb.
Tech support was useless in telling me why I can't get at least over 2Gb since my equipment should theoretically do 2.5Gb.
So I ended up downgrading to 1Gb for $65/month and getting around 950Mbps.
Happy with how that worked out.

back when fiber was brand new, I would consistently stay on the lowest speed plan, and I would consistently get about 30% FASTER than the advertised speed. Very likely going back to Telus fiber for black friday. Looking forward to it. Rogers pissed me off with the set top box rental increases, and I don't really use the TV plan anyway, so fuck em.

I just embraced the whore and signed back up with Rogers/Shaw.
$185/month for 1.5 internet and "popular TV" which is full sticker price and not a penny more. It would be $180 but we have 3 TV's so the additional boxes add $5.

Bonuses lowered it to $175 due to being Fido customer and apparently we get a free doorbell camera with smart access for 3 years, $100 off adding NHL Center Ice so that was only $120 and something else I forget. I think 2-3 months of Crave for free (but I have to remember to cancel it) and free Disney+.

It's nothing to brag about, for sure, but we've been paying $200/month for a bunch of other shit we don't use, so this is less shitty.

Telus charges $10 a box too tho but at least they honor the contract.

Looks like Rogers rebrand services to Xfinity.

    It's fucking embarrassing.
Although just to clarify in case you misunderstood, the NHL package is a one-time $120 for the season. Not monthly.

I hold a grudge against Telus due to dealing with them often for clients, and family members. They did Fibre in our neighbourhood and had our yard dug up anyway. Came to the door multiple times. I kept telling them to eff off. One guy said "even if you don't go with us, get it pulled, resale value blah blah." I said ok. bring it on on the north side of the house. Uhh... no, your services come in on the south side.
Yep, Shaw, Telus, even power come in there, and either go under the slab or in the ceiling to the north side where the panel etc. is.
Basement is totally finished, it was a show home and even the garage is finished with fancy ceiling etc. They finally effed off. Now that Rogers has taken over, I'd be tempted if they could get fibre in where I want it....

I rebooted mine in 2020 I think. Bridged mode FTW.
My Brother-in-Law was staying with us for a while. One day he said I had to reboot my router. I laughed. Told him to fix his shit.
My router uptime currently is 308 days, only because I replaced the hardware.

My modem was in bridged mode for years and the other day the modem some how ended up in normal mode and screwed up everything , I use ASUS routers in an aimesh network , that works great.

hey another mention for the fact that you can get the best deals with either company by cancelling only. You MUST threaten to cancel before they can give you the best deals. Shaw just offered me this:
we can offer you a new plan just on Rogers Xfinity Internet Ultimate 1G at $60+tax , and as a loyal customer we may add a one time credit of $200 to make it like $10/m less furing 24 ,m

^^^ That is an amazing deal, the 1G plan is $125/mo. I pay $70/mo for the 500 Mbps plan, which I thought was great.

I'm pretty sure nobody should ever pay over $100/mo for internet. If you do, make sure to cancel as soon as you can.

Black Friday fiber deal is up. So jealous, fibre is literally across the street 90 feet away but I can't get it.
