    Default Radiator 'Stripes'

Has anyone seen this kind of residue on a brand new car radiator before? If so, any idea what it is and what the best way to remove it is? Looks like a calcium precipitate of some sort; from what I've been told, when you try to clean it with an all purpose cleaner and it gets wet, it goes clear and the radiator looks new. However, once it dries, the white stripes come back.

It's that not crushed fins? The resolution of this picture on my phone isn't making it clear.
If it's calcium deposit, I'd think a mild acid would make short work of it. Something like a wheel cleaner? Apply very very carefully?

Not crushed fins, you can see a build up of stuff along the horizontal parts of the radiator (most noticeable 2nd line up just to the left of middle); these are on some new cars while others don't have them. Another guy posted up the following images, showing the stripe going away after he tried using a steamer:

Have you pressure tested it to make sure it’s not leaking coolant that’s dried?

Not my car, but I'm pretty sure they haven't done that yet. These have been brought up to multiple dealers in NA (visible stripes on cars in Europe and NA) and no one seems to know what it is. Dealers don't seem to be doing much about them other than telling folks they'll try getting them off during PDI to no avail. Cars are still delivered with these on the car.

Make sure to use cleaning vinegar, otherwise you'll be scrubbing for a while.

yea that looks like a minor/dried up leak. If something like CLR dissolves it, you got calcium.
