Buddy was there when it happened. May have been mechanical. I can’t believe they still have no seat belt on the bus.

Wife's been waffling over booking this for the past month or so. First thing I did after seeing this just now was run upstairs and ask what date she'd cancelled...in case I needed to prepare for my Final Destination showdown.

Unsure how I feel about possibly still booking this tour now, though I suppose this isn't much different than a bus rollover on the highway or something. Highly unlikely given their history, but still makes me uneasy.

So sad and unfortunate. I am in Jasper right now but came from Edmonton. But my family from Calgary passed by the Icefields around the same time and saw the massive amount of EMD and police presence. 3 STARS choppers came down from
Calgary, Edmonton and Grand Prairie. RIP to the ones that passed away and hopefully everyone else can make a speedy recovery.

Article said the busses can fit up to 56 people, but this one had 27. I'm guessing they're cutting the passenger count in half for distancing, maybe something that prevented this tragedy from being even worse.

This is so gnarly, was on one of the bus’ to the Skywalk just a week ago today. Not the same route, mind you.

They have vacant seat spacing to keep groups distant.

If they don't run or try to get any revenue, don't be surprised that these businesses won't be around in 6/9/12 months etc. Or can just let them all die, everyone goes bankrupt and just start new again. What's the better option?

    So COVID saved lives?

    Jokes aside...

Alberta Health Services said 14 people were in critical, life-threatening condition, four were in serious but stable condition, and six were in stable condition.
14 people still fighting for their lives.

These buses run the same routes over & over & over, I'm very interested to hear what changed. Did the driver take a different path? Did the surface conditions change dramatically? Something else? I hope they can pinpoint the cause, deal with it and reopen.

Another forum I frequent had a witness that said the bus sped up and it appeared the driver had a medical issue, who was also one of the fatalities. No rock slide that caused it or anything contrary to some reports.

Radio this morning said that the bus in question was flat bedded to and from Calgary 2 weeks ago for major mechanical work. Not sure who the guy was, says he thinks it's hydraulic failure and couldn't slow down.

Know a guy who knows a guy who was on the bus, non critical injuries. Apparently he heard the driver tell paramedics the brakes failed.

    Here is the bus:
    http://foremost.ca/wp-content/upload..._REVISED_s.pdf

air over hydraulic brakes, which according to cor-pak can be difficult to maintain:
    https://kor-pak.com/air-hydraulic-brake-system-work/

"What is an air over hydraulic brake system?
As the name suggests, this type of braking system is a combination of parts of an air brake system and a hydraulic brake system.
It uses both air and hydraulic compression to operate the brakes.
This type of braking system was created with the hopes of increasing the braking power compared to the power in a hydraulic braking system.
This system is not the most common, but it can often found in trucks, trailers, cranes, and other industrial equipment.
Because of all of their parts and components, these systems must be inspected often and maintained by a professional."

Possibly covid / layoff / incorrect maintance?

So is the driver alive or dead?!

No rockslide, I believe the driver is alive but injured. My buddy was on the glacier when it happened and he was stuck there for a while. Not sure if he saw it or heard from someone but he mentioned the bus was going fast.

Air over hydraulic brakes isn't uncommon - pretty much every 5t U-Haul you rent has them. Uses air to boost instead of vacuum/hydroboost. Probably half the 3-5t trucks out there use them... (All the ones that don't require a airbrake endorsement to drive)

Good to know! And if uhaul uses it, you know it can run forever with no maintenance
