No kids so I don't have stake in this. But talking to colleagues who does, a reserved yes for teenagers and a may be or no for Grade 1 and 2.

There is some holding out hope CBE will provide online/distributed learning options.

    From CBE email:

In-person learning is preferred for all students, but we acknowledge that there are some students who may not be able to return to in-person learning right away. For these individuals, the CBE will offer access to an online learning approach in the 2020-21 school year until such time as they are able to return to in-person learning.

Yes. We are all going to be exposed it to. Might as well rip the bandaid off and get it over with.

Yep, Id also be fine with them being required to wear masks to ensure it happens. (Grade 1 & 3)

Same position here. Grades 8 & 4. I'm curious as to what happens when there's a positive, because the announcement yesterday made it sound like it would be up to each school to come up with their own plan.

Curious how this works. Is it up to the parents discretion or does the kid need a valid reason not to attend? It says 'some students may not be able to return' rather than saying its the choice of the parents

Assuming we aren't hit with a massive uptick/wave before then, yes.

Irrelevant as there is no way the teachers don’t strike this fall.

    Yes.

If there are a lot of people that opt out we may end up with smaller class sizes!

The timing of this is terrible for one of my kids heading into high school. Her grade 10 was looking amazing for basketball for a few reasons, and now that's all up in the air.

Both kids that are still in school will be attending.

I will be sending my daughter to K.
I don’t think for a second it will be a full year, I see strikes from teachers for their safety, I see a surge in cases in the early winter, and I see parents being asked to send their kids with full cleaning supplies as schools will be broke by December with all the extra cleaning.

I really hope I’m wrong to all of the above.

Grade 4 & Kindergarten - 1st day of school can’t come fast enough.
Wife will continue to WFH, my office never shut down, but we need to get back to normal - whatever that looks like now.

Haven't heard much. Speaking as a teacher who is without a fulltime contract at the moment. We have our balls in a vice. Subs and temps want to be in the class... cause we need to get paid. But there is also no extra funding to compensate for the extra cleaning which is expected.

I expect the ultimate downside other than increased transmission, to be the quality of learning. Teachers already have a lot to do in the class, but now we must clean everything all the time too...

Yea you are probably fucked in a strike, my wife is in the same boat, as strike pay is prorated based on hours worked in past 2 months (even assuming that’s may and June that’s 0 for pretty much every sub in the system).

I wonder if the union will make an exemption and give subs strike pay anyway to prevent them from being a block voting against further strikes.

One of the interesting ones my wife was telling me is schools and teachers can get in a ton of shit for having alcohol based cleaners at schools. So there goes any hope of the cleaning being inexpensive unless they repeal that rule. Can’t even have some hand sanitizer on you apparently. Not sure if that’s a board wide thing or was just her school but that sounded kindof fucked up (I don’t know how I am surprised by any BS the CBE pulls anymore).

Its not nessecarily that they can't be alcohol based, but they need to be cleaners and disinfectants which cannot harm the skin, so...

I think I'll be alright. The better half is now a paid veterinarian, and I still do security work. Until my teaching career stabilizes, I keep my options open
