Yes, schools are more important for the economy than restaurants, and people aren't up in arms about the fact you can attend those unmasked.
    Sorry @max_boost .

More of a "The economy can't recover until our government paid daycare (school) is back in session, so parents can get back to work" situation.
But we're not going to make masks mandatory for kids, and teachers are expected to pick up the slack when it comes to extra cleaning? I'd be pissed if i was a teacher taking the brunt of the 'economic recovery' load with little thought towards protection of the teachers. Add in teachers bringing it home to their families.. I'd tell them to get stuffed too.

For sure. My girls are sad and relieved that it's mostly online for Fall classes.

Kids are going into grade 11 and first year at UofC. I'll go with whatever the schools suggest with masks or no masks. The kids themselves miss their friends so they are eager to go back to school/hang out with friends.

But there is also no extra funding to compensate for the extra cleaning which is expected.

Teachers already have a lot to do in the class, but now we must clean everything all the time too...

Why is extra cleaning a big issue that needs to be paid extra for? It isn't for my gym, it isn't for restaurants, it isn't for the grocery stores, it's just a necessity to function.

You are talking about an organization that nickle and dimes how many single digit minutes a classroom is cleaned daily and us baked into contracts with their unionized labour force.

School boards are from their core incapable of doing anything inexpensively.

If your job description suddenly changed included cleaning up after little shits, i'd want a change of pay too? The ones you mentioned above, that is fully baked into their work. Teachers are paid to teach, not clean..

If i was told that i have to now clean all the desks of coworkers after ever hour, not just keep my cubi clean, i'd want a bump in pay, or i'd tell them to hire someone to do just that job.

The justification for my daughters school bus being 800 a year vs 2xx is because she could walk through alleys and potentially unsafe routes to walk to school and be within a 2.4km distance instead of using the route the bus takes on the roads
The schools systems here looks for ways to gouge parents and not pay for anything needed

Isn't there daily cleanup in their duty already? Does it really add that much to run across the main shared surfaces with a Clorox wipe?

It would depends. If kids have the same seats daily and teachers comes to them, daily cleaning is probably fine.

High school where students goes to the rooms/teacher are and random seating is where extra cleaning may be needed? OR ask the kids to wipe it down themselves? And given Clorox wipes are still in short supply, would DIY routes means kids will just keep snatching boxes of them for their own family use?

Pretty sure teaching kids how to clean is way more useful than the usual crap we have them learning.

How old are your sugar babies?

I also think that kids should be taught to clean the classrooms.

Based on currrent Covid cases, yes. Here in Chestermere they sent out a rather comprehensive list of adjustments to help reduce potential spread. My kid is 7 though, and at that age it is a challenge to ensure your child does everything they can to protect themselves. Still, rates are low as is the risk.

Now, if (when?) things ramp up for flu season we will see how it goes. Finding alternate child care can be the most challenging obstacle.

Who's job hasnt been impacted by covid. If youre lucky enough to still have a job youre doing more work for probably less pay. If teachers strike over some extra work i suspect the support level sill be very low.

Recently ive been thinking about having all HS go online for the bext year. Will allow the younger kids to spread out across a fee schools and decrease numbers. Bonus points for making hs classes have 75 kids online and we can reduce education expenses to help the budget

OR since it's the new reality and now assigned as a necessary part of your job you could just do it.

OR they could get rid of you and bring in someone who will fulfill their duties, that's always an option at any place of employment.

There's several easy solutions to the problem.

We've added a bunch of daily paperwork requirements to our crews, that's never been baked into their job. There are several other new guidelines that seriously impact their typical workday in a way that never was before.

I'm not paying them more for it, it just became a requirement of their job.

Decent article from a teacher where they tried opening a school under an experiment of CDC guidelines
