If the teachers go on strike, my expectation is that Kenney goes REagan and fires them all.

Been in office last 2 days and smell like wino coming out after a day of sanitizer and cleaning solution cleaning desks/table before and after every meeting. Be fucked if I run into any checkstops after work. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

What a time to be a student in Alberta tho. Imagine all that free time to waste away.
Looking around
Wondering what became
Of what I once knew
Jsut curious as to why people think the teachers will strike?
They don’t want to work / to spite KenneyThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Their contract is up the 31st no?
I figured with the UCP in they were striking no matter what, now that they have a reason to harp on it seems inevitable.

Fire them all if so
That's my take as well. They may have worked without contract before but I got feeling they will pull the safety card on this one and I don't see enough being done to address teacher's concerns from yesterday's briefing. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Well, we kinda did it for the last 4 months. I am sure there are a lot of happy parents in those 4 months. Let's do it for another 10.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Again, don't have a horse in this race. If more people has to stay home, more office space for me. Bonus.
Do I get 50% off prop tax if 2020/21 school year is cancelled?

You don’t keep paying people when you fire them lol

I think he meant more of the "Parents haven't had government paid full-time daycare for 4 months and they're already going insane" aspect. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Some teachers are very worried about the return to school, some are making wills and getting insurance policies, the government return to school plan is hot garbage at best
Personally, I'm wanting to aim for the online return, too many people and it's obvious on this forum think Covid is a hoax

If schools are open for in-person learning, then my kids are going because my leeway to work from home is only because I cannot get childcare. I guess I coukd retire, but the four-ish years I spent mostly unemployed kinda ate into my savings.
Now the whole " teachers feel scared" and "teachers don't trust the plan" thing might prevent that. But if schools let me kids go, they are going.

I want to work... but in a safe environment, which based on many of your complaints of smelling of wino is a valid thing to want. As for the contract, it's kinda irrelevant. Many who pursue teaching don't do it for the money, hell I certainly don't do it to get rich, but it is rewarding. The biggest issue is this government has made it more than clear they don't value public education. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Striking wont really solve some of the issues I have highlighted though, it will just keep people safe. Myself being a severe asthmatic, I find the back to school plan here in Alberta very very lacking

For sure the best way to show your support for public education is... Going on strike.
The government is shitty at everything. Public education is no different.
Maybe you need to reread or you missed something, but I never said I'm in support of a strike. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I'm a substitute at this time unfortunately, so a strike will do nothing more than fuck me financially. I also grew up in a union household, but I would let @speedog comment on that shot show...

Excuse me for moving past the whole covid angle, I’m so fried on the topic I have less than no interest in discussing it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I stand by my statement that I think the ATA would have gone on strike this fall to spite Kenney even if the world was sunshine, puppy dogs and rainbows.
The fact that they have any sort of reason (safe environment) to lean on just cements that.

Feels like all of the protective measures they're forcing on us are a complete waste of time if they're sending the snot monsters back to congregate together .... I won't be surprised to see teachers strike ... I sure wouldn't want to be penned in with the snot monsters all day, that's 100% chance of covid.

Schools perform two critical functions: education and unlocking economic capacity.
