    Default Hockey cards

Completely random post on a slow work day....

Anyone here old enough and cool enough to remember that sweet smell you get every time you opened up a brand new pack of hockey cards back in the 90s? Especially the Upper Deck ones with the glossy cards...I just randomly remember this...the good ol days. ...then after that it was usually followed by disappointment because I only wanted the cards that were worth "a lot" that month according to the Beckett guide (ESPECIALLY the card listed with a little black "up" triangle beside it in the guide).

Kids today don't know what they're missing.

Is the smell of those cards different from a lot of other freshly unpacked set of trading cards (Magic, Pokemon, etc?)
I think they are all pretty satisfying, especially feeling how smooth and new the cards are and that excitement of getting something rare.

Yea dude. We cracked hockey cards ALL THE TIME when we were kids. Tons of great memories going to the card shop every couple weeks and card shows every month with my dad and brother.

As I got old I started buying cases, cracking them all, selling all the RC's and getting the best cards graded and selling those too. Spent all the money I made buying more cards so best case I probably broke even and ended up with what must be a couple 100k (quantity) of cards haha.

Wwhy does one need so many duplicates of the same cards haha... I'll never know.

Man, those Jagr rookie cards bring back good memories haha...I used to try and get as many of the same card as possible and set them up in my bedroom like I owned my own card shop, yes, I was a loser haha

I still remember that Upper Deck Mats Sundin rookie card, it was a draft picture and me and all my friends all copied his gelled up Zack Morris haircut because we all thought he was the coolest hockey player ever.

Imagine if Jagr's rookie card wasn't in the least valuable year in the history of hockey cards. Fuck!

Yea totally. Those OPC ones were $50 each back in the late 90’s early 00’s. All the other a couple bucks tops.

wasn't that smell from the pink stick of gum that was so stale it would break apart in your mouth and never become chewy?

    Nostalgia is real.

Are Sports cards making a massive comeback or is that just Gary V things? lol

They are not. This is capitalizing on rich older men's nostalgia.

    Bump.

So randomly stumbled on the fact that sports card values are through the roof in the last couple months.... basketball mostly but the other sports and hockey are up as well.

Crosby and Ovie Young Gun rc's both pushing $1k each when they were worth 1/10th of that only a couple years ago, mental prices on limited RC's from the last decade and prices on solid graded vintage/early 90's RC's are even up (never figured that would happen).

Gotta fire up my ebay account and get some of that double meat money!

What are you using to see valuations? Just looking off eBay?

Ebay sold listings and I bought an online Beckett (which seems out of date already) based on the Crosby/Ovie prices on ebay sold listings.

I had the same realization with some Pokemon cards, ended up selling some on a FB group. No selling fees other than Paypal's cut. I also felt a little safer since you can look up the buyer's history in the group.

Hockey Card Market is really taking off like it was in the late 80s. And early 90s.

Anyone big into collecting or interested in buying high value cards or sets?

Im looking to sell my 2014-15 and 2015-16 Upper Deck Master sets.

Hey Ben! Do you have any graded stuff?

Also if you want to sell just throw up Facebook Marketplace adds. I throw everything on there before it hits ebay and have a pretty good success rate.

Ya I think it was Global News or something I was watching just a few days ago that said sports cards have made a HUGE comeback during COVID and values have skyrocketed! Enjoy it! Me personally, I don't have much left, what I do have I left I'd probably just give to my nephew, not sure they're worth that much.
