Problem is that the day will come when the whine of electric motors or electronically manufactured sounds will be the prevalent sound on the street as opposed to ICE powered vehicle sounds. Maybe not in my lifetime but certainly in a lot of beyond member's lifetimes this will occur - most of us are already seeing more and more EVs on the street, they are by no means prevalent but I certainly can not go through most days anymore without seeing an EV in Calgary.

Costs alone will keep ev vehicles far out of reach for most people.

And when they do become affordable for all it'll be a whole Honda civic type era where you can buy cheap ev cars but they won't be worth fixing and be an even bigger problem in the world.

EV cars at this point are still a VERY niche market.

That Mach E shown in that video is a technology proof of concept and nowhere near that the street version would be like and be far less enjoyable.

Also with the huge issues around right to repair good luck modding any of these vehicles without getting into hot water. As it is now its extremely difficult to do anything to a Tesla without it freaking out.

Seriously. They highlighted the sound as if it was a good noise. It just sounds like an oversized RC car with cheap bushings.

You're still living 3 years ago mate. EV's are getting more affordable, and once solid state batteries hit, they will be nigh unstoppable.

Consider that you can walk into a Hyundai or Kia dealership right now and walk out with an EV capable of ~400km of range for under $45k CAD.

    2-3 years from now, it'll be sub-$40k.

Well I'm glad you can go and afford a 45k card and feel its "affordable". For the general populous I'm going to completely disagree.

I mean unless you want to live with 8 years of financing and paying out the nose for monthly payments.

A790 is clearly living in the future lol.

I’ve been following EV and battery prices for a long ass time now, as well as waiting for the solid state battery revolution for a decade. The day the first car arrives with a solid state battery is only the beginning. At that point the minimum technical challenges would have been solved. Then we will follow the price drop curve like we’re doing for EV batteries, which means another 10 years give or take to reach the price performance ratio of an equivalent ICE drivetrain for economy cars.

In the meantime enjoy the subsidies that close the gap a little. Oh except us in AB that get shafted on any EV subsidies lol.

In the recent earnings call. Elon acknowledged that their cars are not affordable at the moment and that they will look to lower prices ultimately to something like a 1% margin to accelerate electrification of vehicles.
    It's coming man.
