I remember people chewing him out at the community meetings re: Rezoning Shawnee Slopes golf course. I think he no showed once. Someone yelled "where the F were you at the last meeting? too busy prepping to climb the fukn mountain?"
That was one contentious land sale. My sister's house overlooks it, the view sure is different now.

I take exception to this, only because of the colloquial definition of major achievement. There is no one up their own ass more than someone who has climbed everest, or even competed in major ironman events. These people should be celebrating whatever they did in life to afford them the time and money to do those other things, because odds are, they're objectively pretty successful. Be proud of that, not your ability to be the best at exercising.
Embrace mediocrity instead. Got it. It's the Canadian way!

It's certainly an accomplishment in being lucky enough to not be killed randomly by the weather. And the oxygen tanks that you pay someone else to carry and leave behind as litter will stay behind for many years, similar to a legacy...

No, my post wasn’t in reference to Everest specifically. Rather the idea that someone who accomplishes more than you (in whatever field that happens to be) is doing so frivolously and should be ridiculed.

In terms of mountaineering, however, I’m willing to bet that 90% of the guys on here probably couldn’t even do 100 pushups, or see their Johnson past their craft beer fueled “dad bod,” (see dad bod thread for examples) much less climb a mountain, but yet, seem to have no issue casting dispersions on the guy who can.

Burnt Chrysler ran a marathon and he's an obese alcoholic. It's also not a secret that an Everest climb is a long long way from a life-altering athletic endeavor and moreso about selecting favorable weather..
So, no - the bragging about pseudoccomplishments can and will continue to be mocked.

You’re missing the point entirely. So what if someone does something they happen to be proud of? If that’s their thing, I say let ‘em have it. Just go about your day. Why spend the effort, to go out of your way to mock something that someone else achieved?

I assure you, it's very little effort. They crave constant attention & validation and I simply don't give it to them.

It turns out that sexual orientation and misguided gender preference is also not an accomplishment worthy of constant attention & validation either.

Everest specifically is a "how much money can you spend".

Theoretically an Everest trip is ~3 months between gear, acclimatization, etc. But if you're already acclimatized, been doing mountains, aren't bringing o2, etc, it can be done in 11 hours. _That's_ impressive. Spending 200k to have a sherpa carry your oxygen up for you is just excess.
