Default Rattling Noise Driving on Uneven Surfaces

Has anyone ever heard of or experienced the rattling noise of metal on metal while driving over uneven surfaces (i.e. manholes)?

It’s definitely coming from the rear passenger side and seems to only occur when driving over manholes, not at all on speed bumps. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think that's pretty rare in your Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas. Although that's a great car, I guess since it's pretty old now a few rattles are not unexpected.

Lol it’s a Mazda 3 Sport actually and it definitely sounds like something is loose or moving around. Definitely not a normal rattling sound.

Sway bar end links. Our Mazda 3 eats them. On the fourth or fifth set.

Interesting, that’s what I’ve been thinking as well. Called Mazda and they quoted $200+ for the job. I’m thinking I could do it myself, but not sure if the length of work is worth it.

Not sure on the 3, but every sway link I have ever worked on has been very straight forward. Worth a go I figure.

First though, why not get under there and take a look? Any issue should be obvious in the structure or bushing.

mazda 3 and 5s suffer from the upper rear shock mount breaking - mainly due to corrosion buildup allowed in the area (not sealed) - if you lift the affected back corner and look up at the mount, it should be obviously cracked or broken

Also check for broken springs. They're bad for that as well. I've had to replace both on mine.

Last week replaced some swaybar end point links on my wife's 2009 Pontiac Vibe, pretty straight forward...until it's rusted to shit and you can't get an allen key into the center to prevent it from spinning as you try to undo the nut. $200 is pretty good if you don't want to fuck around with it. For wife's it was $82 in parts and like 3 hours of my time....didn't have a grinder and ended up cutting off with a dremel. Mine was a clunk going over jumps.
