I have cameras. Made for some popcorn time the next morning 8 hours after the incident lol.

You need ridiculously good video quality to have an identifiable video, and even then unless it was your neighbour’s kid who you know what are you going to do with the video anyway.
Yeah we have cameras at our shop and had some encounters with the shop trucks and storage and about the only thing it was good for is to see the fuckers go through your shit knowing you cant do anything lol

Leaving a modern vehicle unlocked is surprisingly difficult to do on most models these days.
The F150 doesnt have any type of auto lock feature, it requires you to physically push the button on the fob to lock. I wish it did though because we've had reports of prowlings too in our community and im so paranoid now that im finding myself getting into the routine of pushing the lock button here and there at home

Focus and F150 are both very common cars so thieves would know their way around and would just using a slim Jim on the doors. My guess is it's a pair of people, one opened the first vehicle and the second rummaged through it while the first person then breaks into the second / keeps an eye out. A minute tops and they're gone.
You'd set the alarm off if you unlocked the doors with a slim jim, the factory alarm would sense that the lock was opened manually while armed. F150 also has an app now that would notify you that the alarm was triggered.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

How does the keyfob repeater work, I wouldnt think the keyfob would be transmitting anything at all unless the button was pressed.

Passive entry, it’s always transmitting. Repeater boosts the signal so car things the key is nearby.

I know on BMW and Mercedes it can be disabled by pressing a combo on the key. Looks like that’s not an option with Ford.

If you remote local 100 cars there will be 1 or 2 doors left open almost guaranteed. I haven’t heard of any vehicle that has feedback on the actual door lock position and there are lots of misfires. I’ve tested every vehicle I’ve owned over the years and every one has failed to lock every door / tailgate at one point or another. Thieves love the lazy, check your doors before night.

Tennis ball is a myth - it's never worked on any car. But there was one of the ?dodge?ford? Low end cars you could literally bang the door and get the lock to pop. Aspire maybe? The CAA unlock manual referenced it...
Mazda3s had this issue. I think the first gen.

My cop friend told me to move my car keys away from the front door or cover them in tin foil at night because "there's a new trend where they copy your car keys' signal if you keep them close to your front door, then use a booster to open and push button start your car on the driveway in the middle of the night and drive away"

Those boosters are motivated thieves. End of the day if someone wants your car they can take it.

You want to prevent crimes of opportunity. For everything else, that’s what you pay for insurance for.

Anyone trolling a neighborhood with a key booster, isn’t there for change and sunglasses.

I thought car prowling has been very common for years. My coworkers has send many footage of prowlers to CPS but until something actually happens, nothing can be done.

There were the Honda screw up that let you into interior.

Then there is the Toyota screw up that make all RX basically involuntary Car2Go.
    https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=1545087

And those signal boosting/repeater that let you take all cars with keyless start/entry.

Park your cars in garage if you don't want it to be messed with.

People can steal my cars all they want. Just make sure they never turn up and I’m happy.

Most theft is just not worth worrying about beyond basic common sense and doing what you can to not be an easy target. CPS does not investigate it either, so investing heavily in cameras and similar things is pointless if your goal is to catch someone.

Insurance is going to replace anything that gets stolen, and anything irreplaceable or incredibly valuable should be stored in a safety deposit box or some other kind of secure storage appropriate for the item. Just document everything you care about with photos, serial numbers, receipts, videos, etc. - whatever applies. Beyond that, it's pointless to stress about it because there's nothing you can do. If someone wants something you have bad enough, theyr'e going to get it.

As much as I like our vehicles, I highly doubt professional thieves are going to target a 2015 Ford Focus SE and a 2019 F150 Lariat...

I will take the advice of moving the keys further into the house though.

It just seems really weird that it happened to both vehicles...
It’s possible they could want an F-150 if they intend to use it to steal trailers from a different location. Maybe not professional per se but a step up from prowling.

Worst is recovery with all kind of damages and bodily fluids inside. Just send it on boat to Africa, I don't want to see it again and let insurance deal with the rest.

Did you check if you could code it via Forscan to have Autolock?
I know there's an autolock feature you can turn on where if you unlock it but never opened a door it will automatically lock after 30 or 45 seconds. Some cars have this as standard but not for the F150.
Just not sure if there is one that will automatically lock no matter what after a certain time.

Check average size of half ton truck versus average size of garage

My garage is 6 inches too short height wise for my truck to make it in, my last garage was 18 too short length wise. Not even talking comfort levels, but physical possibility.

The latest Mercedes and BMW keys has accelerometers so if the key isn’t moving it shuts down the radio. Shuts down repeaters at home but not from your pocket when you’re out and about.

I have the second longest configuration available for an F150, second only to an extended cab with an 8' box. It does not physically fit in our garage, as the door would clip the hood.
