We should figure out what else is on the list of exemptions.
When the man is right, he sure is right. Exemptions are stupid.

The tax code should be eliminated in its entirety. No personal income tax at all.
GST should be 19% and gets split between the province and federales.
Current food and grocery exemptions stay in place but add feminine hygiene products (that is my wifes biggest pet peeve).
    This would only increase inequality.

Millionaires/Billionaires don't spend the majority of their earnings on discretionary goods. That's how they become millionaires/billionaires.

Should toilet paper be exempt as well?

I vote that we disguise reverse-tariffs as exemptions that protect bloated and inefficient Canadian production.*

Given the implementation of Common Reporting Standards, the CRA should have automated software that checks account flows against tax returns. Tying it in with vehicle registry and property data would further highlight mismatches between claimed income and assets worthy of further investigation.

In Sweden, the government actually sends you your completed tax return and all you need to do is confirm it's correct (with as little as a text message).

The only reason governments haven't done this is by choice. I think Buster's quote is perfect - it's not just incompetence but intention.
Virtually everything would turn into a "benefit" - house benefit, grocery benefit, retirement benefit, porn benefit, etc.

That shit ain't money, and therefore not taxed.

And yeah, most countries have no concept of the taxpayer filling out a return. It's a NA thing.

I'd think the opposite as benefits require more information from the individual taxpayer.

If it were me, there'd be a progressive discount (inverse to income rates - regressive discount?) based on dependents - young, old, special needs and that's it.

The benefits are the entire problem with the tax code as that's where all the populism and cronyism comes from.

Meanwhile he jets (literally) around in a cross country tour from Vancouver, to Edmonton and then to Quebec for bullshit press conferences. Now he went back to Whistler for the weekend only to fly back to Ottawa after. But trucks and suv owners need to pay.

Cutting Canada at the 49th needs to happen.

The thread is mis-named. Trudeau can stay, but we should go.

As much as it will suck for the people who didn't vote Liberal/NDP, maybe a few years of hardship will be good for those that did.

Meh. Trucks have such huge margins the car manufacturers can eat it.
