Astronauts are scientifically tested/selected to be pretty much the most remarkable humans around. Multiple standard deviations above mean intelligence is all fine & dandy, but they also need to have: manual dexterity, actual understanding of how real things work (not just boxes on a drawing), ability to fly anything with wings, perfect vision (still a requirement, I think), broad scope of intelligence profile, etc etc.
The hardest thing ends up being the ability to communicate effectively without being a stunned freak or a complete asshole. Why? Because they're so impossibly advanced in every other category. Look at even how many engineers have Asperger's and can't function in a meeting.

It's kind of interesting how the positions of Astronaut and Governor General are both directly appointed by the Prime minister. That's right, your "Multiple standard deviations above mean intelligence" can be overruled by some pissant holding the highest office. If only there were a selection process driven by a committee of highly regarded professionals who evaluate the merit of a group of applicants for a high profile position.

So far, it would appear that Prime Minister Peewee neglected (and at worst interfered with) the vetting process for the Governor General appointment.

BTW the latest selections for CSA Astronauts were pretty much ironclad, but that doesn't mean Trudeau COULDN'T have fucked it up if Gerry Butts wanted to be a space cadet.

To be fair prime minister PeeWee is fully entitled to reccomend whoever he wants to for the GG job, technically the queen appoints on his advice. It’s not really interference when it’s entirely his prerogative to appoint, just as him appointing cabinet members can’t really be called “interference”.

The evil Harper man put a non partisan process together to try and avoid these problems, Trudeau decided to scrap it and make his own pick which is how we ended up with Payette.

I can’t comment on the selection process for astronauts.

But that’s the beauty of it all, his idiot appointments are entirely his fault and he should take every iota of blame for appointing somehow who was so obviously a red flag.

    1) Under pandemic
    2) O'toole got a few jabs here and there but no knock out to make him stand out. And he stays on vaccine shortage that is out of anyone's control, that will lose him a few points. Staying of GG resignation may be a better topic but that has very limited mileage.

Session starts again today, see if we are heading into an election under pandemic soon.

Pushing for an election without a GG in place would be the height of Hubris

So a normal day for PM Socks I guess

I think the Conservatives are in no position to want a quick election. They shouldn't be pushing for one.

What Justin will do is beyond my capacity to speculate.

Pipe dream, you won't get BC to come along and the prairie provinces all doesn't have ports that matters.

Also it's China's pipe dream is all countries breaks up and easier to dominate.

BC's only other option will be to be completed isolated from the rest of the country.

    1) Canada doesn't want that
    2) Canada will buckle under the pressure before any separation happens

But its starting to seem like the threat needs to become very real in order for any change to happen, ala Quebec.

Canada will buckle under the pressure? In what universe? What pressure?

I’d say It has been effectively proven in the past decade that completely ignoring the west’s interests is a completely viable political strategy for Canada.

The only reason the threat is real in Quebec is that Bloc actually is a threat in taking Liberal or Conservative seats in Quebec.

There is no such threat in the prairie provinces. You can't lose what you don't have (Liberals). And you don't have to buy votes that is guaranteed yours (Conservatives).

We tried at one point with Reform, but that eventually got us Harper but that's about it.

    This.

Put a solid plan in the ear of Ottawa, even if it's just fantasy. Make it a credible threat and you never know, best case eastern Canada won't have as much influence on the country overall. Population should not equal representation. You can't tell me that PEI needs multiple seats and the western part of the island has different potato growing problems than the eastern part. The southern ontario and quebec division of seats is just a joke overall. No point for anyone west of Manitoba to show up to the polls.

Why pander to someone who will always vote for (or against) you?

You guys do all realize how fucked Canada would be if the revenues/ transfer payments from Alberta were to leave Canada correct?

IF Alberta and western provinces were to actually get serious and organize a separatist government, Canada would be forced to listen.
