Imagine how much better politicians would be if they were paid the same as CEOs.

I want that ugly, whiny soccer lady to make as much as Messi and then die of a drug overdose after an abusive scandal.
What's her stupid name? Meh - who cares...

I don't think that theory would hold up. Sure there would be a stronger field competing for the job, but at the end of the day, the voting public chooses them. And the voting public has demonstrated for many many years that they don't elect based on capability or strong policy. They elect whoever panders the best, so you'd still wind up with a pandering dickhead at the helm.

Yeah but they'd pander so much better than they do now.

People complaining about corporate greed are likely bitching about CEO-to-worker compensation ratios. Back in the 60's, it was 15:1, then late 80's was 44:1, and now it's 399:1. All of this is widening the wealth gap where I'd wager half of North Americans are living paycheque to paycheque. It's less about others have more, it's about low income earners not having enough to live despite their hours worked. At this point, if your parents aren't providing you with some generational wealth, it makes it exponentially more difficult to improve your quality of life as a future generation.

Maybe naïve but the basic concept of corporations needing to make money to continue being a corporation isn't lost on that many people. You've definitely got people on either end of the wealth spectrum that have no idea how money works.
regarding the paycheque to paycheque, I head 60% under 100k income earners are in that boat and above 100k is like 40%. That are some big numbers which means they cant weather the financial storm that is coming.

It’s amazing how many people consistently spend more than they bring in.

I thought that was pretty good and only a matter of time provinces who use natural gas to heat homes went after him for his exemption on heating oil. Either you're not charging carbon tax to heat peoples homes across the entire country or you're charging everyone. You can't single out your voting base for special treatment (well.... you shouldn't)
I would use the term political protection racket.

If I go to restaurant and demand money. Nothing will happen. If I send in random goons to behave unsocially then there is a problem. If I offer a solution in the form of protection. I receive money.
I have created and problem that does not exist. But I have provided a solution that extorts money. The business owner has no choice.

If you can wrap your head around that and apply it politically. Its called the carbon tax.

What I find more worrying is, where are the checks and balances in our system to keep this in check? How can power be so centralized in parliament? Where are the courts, Senate in this?

If this brings Trudeau down . I would be very concerned as to who comes after... Chrystia Freeland?

Brah that's literally every tax there is.

    It's called ultimate coercive power.

Playing defence on the carbon tax has put Trudeau's Liberals on the defensive
By allowing an exception for one type of home heating fuel, the government has painted itself into a corner

Poilievre doubled down on this yesterday and asked in the house if the NDP voted in favour would they use this as a vote of non-confidence.
