We could use slightly more of this here.

Everybody just needs to learn how to do it properly. It starts with a couple of good sized pitbulls.

Any dog should work fine. Just needs to have a bad owner.

It's not very often (aka Never in my experience) in the "third world" you need to navigate through meth heads, fentanyl zombies, or tent cities to navigate urban areas yet back in "first world" Canada...
When was the last time you actually had to navigate that?

Your question needs more clarity. It could be interpreted that you're suggesting no such places exist in Canada. Or you could be legit asking him when the last time was because he's loved abroad for a long time.

The dead and or nearly dead people downtown are a daily occurrence for downtown workers. Plus 15, or sidewalk, both.
Around 500 overdose deaths a year for Cowtown alone.

I’m not saying it doesn’t exist, but I definitely haven’t really seen it that much when wandering downtown unless you’re in the outskirts. I am glad I don’t have to go downtown for work anymore and deal with the Victoria Station crew.

You haven't been downtown in a few years I take it. It's noticeably worse now.

    It's pretty bad.
And East Hastings Street in Vancouver is now a life-altering experience. The west coast is in the business of importing the nation's homeless for about half the year.

Definitely spend significantly less time than previous years but certainly not ‘never’. Probably more to do with not being near c train areas when i do

I am downtown let's say 3 days a week, and don't ride the c-train, and man, it's still pretty bad even on the north side of downtown.

It's bad, but that day near EFW was really bad. Like I think there were at least 15 people tripping on that street alone.

    Yes for sure
Round them up and bring them somewhere like what the commies would do? lol
But wait, we are better. We don’t do that here.

Last summer when I was back. You'd think you'd be proud to show your wife your hometown but instead I was embarrassed.

She wanted to see the Central Public Library... but didn't go because of all the drunks, druggies, and homeless hanging out in front of it. I saw more than a few zombies on Stephen Ave myself, and groups of people openly smoking who knows what out of foil near LRT stations. Strange to feel uncomfortable as a 200 pound guy in a city you grew up in but that's how I felt every time I passed an alleyway with some meth head in a hoodie.

We flew to Victoria for a week and it seemed every park was full of tent encampments. We walked from the airport to catch the bus into town (it's actually a nice walk) and the first person we encountered on the walking path was a guy bent over with his forehead on a sign frozen in place - I'd assume from Fentanyl. Weirdest isht I've ever seen.

I've seen poverty in the 115 countries I've traveled to, but never the drug addiction and tent cities like I see in Canada and the US. And I'm exploring the densely populated urban parts - not hiding in my "gated" community like it seems some of you do.

I drove my kids through E Hastings last Sunday as a stark warning of the peril of using drugs. Not sure it hit home with them as we then went to Capilano and spent $200 to cross a bridge.

E Hastings is way worse than I recall. Completely taken over with plenty of people walking around bent 90 degrees at the waist.

I think comparisons are difficult with anecdotes, since many of us travelled the world "years ago" aside from our favourite Spanish member. But yeah, it's worse worldwide in the last 4-5 years, and certain cities in North America have fallen further, faster tahn others.
East Hastings has been a druged-out shitthole for 50 years, but you now see this kind of shit even in places that were "nice" in 2015.

Fuck, we need a drug abuse / overdose Megathread.
