For me, the countries who are currently least embarrassing are the former USSR countries in Eastern Europe - Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Czech, Slovakia = and to a large extent Poland and Serbia as well, though they have their weird religious Conservative flaws. They're enacting progressive fiscal and social policies that are spurring economic growth, improved infrastructure and social services, and an entrepreneurial and innovative atmosphere that businesses are actually attracted to operate in.

Kids are so naive and impressionable. They shouldn't have access to such drastic and life altering treatment and surgeries until they are of legal age and undergo a battery of psychological testing.

Putting these views into the limelight is just asking for them to become an election topic, one of which the conservatives will have already won the right vote on, but are likely to lose left leaning undecideds. Don’t get why they’d waste time on gaining further right voters, it’s not like they’ll lose Alberta by not bringing up trans gender rights..

It's pretty front & center in society and I think you're seeing a reflection of that. "Pride Week" has transitioned into Pride Month and I was under the impression that was June, but perhaps that was not enough because in August, CoC kicked off a while bunch of other Pride activities, which is confusing.

Aside from that, television commercials (the ones that aren't for online gambling) have leaned pretty hard into interracial homosexual couples. While that's not trans, someone decided Pride needed to be intricately wound within trans, so those lines are blurring.

This is the problem with conservatives. They don’t realize how fucked it is. You think centrist and undecided voters worry just about those things, they don’t. It is a lot easier to swing votes to the left by pointing out behaviour that sure toes the line of bigotry. There’s a reason the liberals very effectively chased Scheer by discussing his views on abortions.

See, I think you just uncovered the reason why our political system in North America is so fucked up. Nobody wants to run a neutral government. People are getting so opinionated these days that they are going to side with a government based on that party's staunch support for something that they feel strongly about. And sometimes, it's either a yes or no opposed to a compromise. So leftists pick pro choice, rightists pick abortion bans. Leftists push the trans agenda and gay rights, rightists tend to be completely against it. And if a party positions themselves in the middle, they appear wishy-washy and don't get support from the extremes of either side. So, we see the governments pushing their agenda hard because it's the platform they got in with and it's all or nothing if they want a second term.

Luckily, breaking this is still possible because the other factor people use is the leader himself. It seems so hard to find a leader who is competent, well spoken and for the people that if such a man (or woman) came around, I could see Canadians voting accordingly to just not have another chump in office. And I'm sorry, but it doesn't appear the next federal election is likely to include such a leader in either our country, or our neighbours below.
