Default Insects worse this year? Wasps and horseflys specifically

Anyone have waaay more wasps and horseflys in thier yard this year compared to normal? The horseflys are normally pretty rare at my house and my usual camping spots, but it's been relentless everywhere. Wasps I think might be a local thing, but my yard is infested. No colony on my property anywhere I vna find, but they are swarming the yellow bag traps I set out really aggressively, and have been for weeks. Usually a couple of those traps will weaken the colony enough that they are no problem, but not this year. Been wild.

I went for a walk yesterday and something stung me on my neck, and I haven't been stung in a long time so I'm going to say yes

I had a huge paper wasp (?) colony in my irrigation box this year. Went to manually turn it on one day and nope'd out of their right after taking off the lid.

We always have them though due to our location. Nothing an entire bottle of wasp killer can't solve.

Put up one of these traps in the entrance of a small shed between the house and garage, and despite the bad reviews it has it is actually catching a fair number of them.

We haven't noticed an increase in wasps or horseflies, but we have way more ants this year. We've also got slugs in our veggie garden this year (we haven't had any slugs in the entire 5 years we've had a veggie garden. Our rose bushes also got some insect infestation (I forgot the name of them -- my girlfriend noticed them, identified them, and used a dish soap + water spray to eradicate them).

Less wasps than normal, less bees too. Almost never see horseflies in our yard though.

Neighbour had a huge hornets nest in his front tree, like bigger than a cfl football and one on the back of his house too! lol

I now have one somewhere behind/under my front steps, been blasting spray in and it’s not doing shit. Going to fill it up with more spray and foam it shut tonight though Haha. Also killed a small one down the side of my house a couple weeks ago.

I’m voting more mean bugs this year for sure.

From what I heard, wasps get kicked out of the hive this time of year and they are angrier.

Ants. Holy shit, ants! There was an anthill out front, so I put an icing sugar/borax mixture out and they were gone soon after. Then some kid came door-to-door with a pest control plan. I declined. Next week trying to paint the fence, I thought they might carry me away. Hmm maybe saleskid released a few thousand and will be back....

The horseflies are the worst I've seen while fly fishing this year.

I had one like that under a shed. I had to use a floor jack to lift it up, combined with a lot of spray, run, hide, wait, repeat.

It's weirder than that. Wasps spend most of the spring/summer collecting food for their young. The young shit out a sugary substance that the adults then eat. Beginning in late summer, the young have become adults, so stop producing the sugar, and now there's more adults, plus a scarce food supply because flowers have finished pollinating. Plus they have to get ready for winter. So they are angry as fuck for a reason.

Odd, I haven't noticed either at all. I guess I must be lucky.

Out camping at crimson lake and wasps are around but as soon as your food is put away or out of reach they piss off. Seen them more near the taps which I suspect is because they are thirsty. There are almost no mosquitoes out here however there are these small flies that are smaller than mosquitoes and are not bothered by repellent or thermacells. They don’t bite but they are super annoying also there are lots of flies but not horse flies.

Haha that’s what I was doing, spraying then waiting ten min then spraying again

Neighbour is a bad ass and got rid of both himself in a day haha

We have a wasp nest and I’ve noticed them more. They are cyclical though so to be expected.

Don’t spray those wasp (or hornet) nests in your trees with the wasp spray. We killed a huge portion of a 30’ tree a couple years back. Or significantly douse it with water afterwards.

What happened to the bundle up in winter wear and plastic bag them in the evening method?
Or tiger torch depending on placement.
