    Default Adult Rec Hockey

So, looking to see what's going on out there:

    - What league were you in last year?
    - Is your team playing in the same league this winter? A different league?
    - Any modifications to the rules?
    - Are you and or your team sitting out this winter and if so, why?
    - Any other comments about the upcoming season?

    We play CAHL.

Unsure if we will play this year.

Sounds like max 11 guys per team and 4 teams per “league”.

    HNA
First time in 16yrs I decided to opt out. It's only partially because of COVID; it actually has as much to do with ice times and my personal schedule as anything else.
The team is still going ahead as far as I know, but I haven't heard if there are any changes yet.

    - SHHL Div 6
    - Sounds like we're planning to play winter
    - Likely there will be a cohort rule with 12 skaters including goalie it sounds like. 4 teams per div.

    Winsport
As far as I know there is no word yet on when/if the season will start.
I would like to play, but will depend on what rules are implemented if they move ahead with the season.

bahaha I totally forgot about that guy.

Also, Winsport is doing a Fall Mini-League. Believe 11 person teams, 4 team league.
Jumping on my dad's team to at least get back on the ice. His was the team that had the original COVID19 scare back in March which shut down the league.
I happened to be subbing that game too....everyone else on the team came back negative.

We're ASHL and I assume the rules are nationwide? Summer rules were absolutely ridiculous here, I read halfway and straight up Leslie Knoped it. Haven't even looked at the winter ones I just told the team if it's as stupid as summer see you next year.

Edit - 5 minutes after I posted this the fall rules showed up from our team's Dear Leader. Here's the ASHL winter plans:

Here it is boys. ASHL has released what hockey this fall is going to look like. The season is going to be split into 2 separate sessions. Fall and Winter.

Fall season is what we are talking about. The rules for winter have not been released yet.

For those that have played summer, fall league is going to look exactly the same. Only exception is rosters will be allowed to be 12 players including a goalie. All 12 will be allowed to show up to a game at once.

For the rest of you that aren’t familiar with the rules here is a quick summary:

    4 on 4.
    2-20 minute straight time periods.
    No face-offs.
    Locker rooms can be used.
    No showers.
    No spitting.
Teams will not be allowed to bring in subs. Only players on the 12 person roster are allowed to play.
    18 games. No playoffs.
    Cost is $375/player
Fall Season runs from Sept 21st to December 30th. All teams will have a game scheduled on Christmas day between 8am and 11:15pm.
    Registration deadline is Sept 3rd.
    Limited team spots available.

    Those rules seem like shinny....

Our team is signed up for the ASHL Fall season.
    Rules we received are;

Season Start Date: Sept. 13th, 2020
End Date: At the latest Dec. 22nd, 2020
All games are played at Great Plains Arena. Sunday – Thursday
No games scheduled on Friday or Saturday

    Regular season games - 12
Playoff games – 1 (Minimum), two game series final
    Game length – 3 x 14 min. periods
Games are 5 v 5 as per normal

*Overtime - 3 on 3 (If still tied after 3 on 3, single player shoot-out)

    Divisions A, B, C, D, E
**Maximum players allowed on team is 11 (including goalie)
Substitute players from within your own division only
Four teams per division, no reseeding of teams will made
The other team I'm on in the CAHL has interpreted the cohort rule differently.

16 Player Team Rosters, No Division Limit and Realignments if There is still a Government Restriction

    As of August 23rd, 2020:

Please note that if there is still the government restriction that "sports teams can play in region-only cohorts of up to 50 players (mini leagues)" then we will have the following until the government restriction is lifted.

    1. 16 Player Team Rosters: Teams can still have a team roster of 16 players. However, 16 players is the maximum. Teams can only have sub skaters and sub goalies from other teams within the same cohort and they would not count towards the 16 player team roster limit.
    2. Regular Division Sizes: The divisions will still be regular in size. However, the division schedule will accommodate the government restriction of 50 players in a cohort by having groups of 3 teams play each other with a 14 day break before those 3 teams play against the other teams within the same regular sized division.
    3. Roster Changes and Realignments: The team rosters can be changed and division realignments can be made during the 14 day breaks that comes after the groups of 3 teams play each other before they play the other teams within the same regular sized divisions.

In the event that the government restriction that "sports teams can play in region-only cohorts of up to 50 players (mini leagues)" is lifted during the season then we would make adjustments accordingly and lift the 16 player team roster limit and change the schedule so that it is no longer based on groups of 3 teams playing each other before they play the other teams within the same regular sized divisions after the 14 day breaks.

To reply to my own thread...

We're normally NCHL, they are running basically the same rules as CAHL but we had enough guys bail that to keep playing we would have had at least a 60% turnover of guys so we just pulled the plug. I'll give the NCHL credit, we got our money back within a week so that was much better than what happened in the spring when they cancelled the balance of the season. I have to think that the total number of registered players this year is going to be WAY down from previous years.

    Same same.
    We start next Thursday.

I wonder how many divisions there are going to be.

Not only that, anyone with kids in minor hockey who wants to coach this year has to choose coaching or playing. Can't do both. This year because of the whole "cohort" thing with hockey, the kids playing hockey can't play any other sport with other teams, and coaches can't play in any other league.

And I'd say the vast majority of parents who coach, also play. It's going to leave a lot of potential coaches with a tough decision of playing or coaching.

This is a significant angle, just under half the guys on our team also coach hockey or ringette so that was a big factor.

Played All-Cal and ASHL last year.

All Cal team is moving to HNA and my ASHL team opted out for this year as the rules were all over and we were unorganized on a good day.
HNA rules seemed to be the most "normal" given the situation.
Definitely concerned about putting in a ton of money and losing out if Covid goes full swing again.
