2020 Honda Rebel 500 ABS (471cc)?

Starting to be a fan of these and wondering if anyone has experience or any alternative.

beyond.ca mid-life has taken over and I am thinking of getting another bike again.

The bike, upon closer inspection looks a bit funny (rear suspension, exhaust pipes) but the price is under my radar.

The previous bike was a 2005 Honda Shadow 750, racked up about 5,000km, and sold it. Then life happened so I waited this long until another toy.

Other solid bikes: Yamaha Bolt, Suzuki Boulevard.

Are you leaning to lower displacement specifically, or just liked the Bolt?

Can you handle a heavier bike?

Ride a Svartpilen and Vitpilen. You can find them used (or sometimes demo models) for well under $10k.

Build quality, suspension, motor, fuel economy, maintenance schedule and riding dynamics are all exceptional. Plus I think they look great to boot:

I test drove both the 701's and liked the suspension feel of the Svartpilen better and was a bit more comfortable with the higher bars/seating position; these are both great looking bikes with a great seating position. If I wasn't as old as the hills I would get one in a heartbeat, I even tried convincing the wife to let me get a 401 to throw in the truck when we go camping so i have something to boot around with.

I think the Svartpilen 401 is enough for driving outside of town and commuting. I have been reading about their issues (you know how internet is) and to where to service them. Apparently some KTM dealers do not want to service them under warranty.

Is why I don't own one. They're like the Saab of motorcycles: super cool to look at, neat to drive, but you don't want to be the sucker owning it because it comes with brand-specific headaches.

I considered the rebel 500, then I bought an MT09 and love it. Sounds way better haha.

@Kijho , I am looking into one that I can take to gravel roads as well. Can you add some Pirelli Rally STR (similar to the ones from Svartpilen 401) and have it gravel ready? Thanks

I'd honestly buy a slightly older, used bike. A vulcan 900 custom would be a good bet. Easily enough power for the highways, and you can get them for under $4500 quite easily. With the 500, you will find anything north of 100kph is a bit of a tall order for it. The market is much bigger if you were to consider a good used bike.
