I have always loved how they look, especially the face-lifted headlights (I know, blasphemy right?). I drove a 964 C2 and really didn't like it all that much, steering and brakes were far too heavy for how slow that car was. I figure any classic Porsches through the 993s aren't too much different (not having driven them) and I think 991s and newer look too large for the classic, more oval headlights. Plus Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed where the 996 GT1 car is the best car in the game. I played that game lots back in the day. 997s are fine looking, but 991s and 992s just look too big (992s especially with the much more arched body work on the rear quarter).
I guess you havent driven a 996 Turbo then? Steering is slooooooow and the brakes arent particularily great imho. Felt like a plank of wood. Car felt like a speedboat... it would dive an squat on accel/braking (I threw in new shocks too). Has a bit of turbo lag too, by the time full boost kicks in you'll be doing 150+

I enjoy turbo cars, but my next car will be NA.

Would have to be something unique like a '73 boat tail...

Ray Vecchio would disagree, 1971 or bust.

For me it would be a 911 turbo as it's always been the first car I'd go buy if I had a mountain of disposable cash. As to which variant now, that's harder to pin down.

That's a definite money-no-object car... Carrera GT money for something that 99% of people would think is a riced-out base 911.

Great spec. There is a Rubystone Red 4.0 at the Porsche museum and it is the absolute dream.

I considered posting this specific car for my money no object car but it wouldn’t be a car someone would drive regularly. Too rare and exclusive. It’s a very understated example, and the average guy would have no idea of the value.

I feel like owning a car I was afraid to drive would entirely ruin the concept for me.

Better off getting one of those fake huayras you can hang on your wall.

Maybe if I had a nicer garage

It’s great in the winter, and boring as hell in the summer. It’s definitely not a money is no object car imo.

I’m only entertained by cars that scare me. I get bored once I learn a car well where I can confidently slide the car around on the street and know exactly what will happen.

Not what I meant. I mean owning some collector piece I’m too afraid of wearing out such that it never leaves the garage.

Now that’s boring. If I buy a car I want to drive it. Then again I’m not rich enough to be Jay Leno.

If money was no object why would you care about depreciation?

Elon Musk used to commute in his McLaren F1 haha.

If there is more than 5 in the world and you have all the money... you don’t care, if there is less than 5... you’re a dick

I feel like you can be rich and still feel obligated to keep something pristine.

I guess I just want something I can drive every day everywhere and not gaf about it.

Didn't know he crashed it. That makes perfect sense then, his goal for Tesla was to make a car that can accelerate as fast as a McLaren F1 but easy to drive.

Using a car like this and keeping it pristine are not mutually exclusive. Obviously you don't take your McLaren LM to Safeway (even the one in Aspen), but that doesn't mean it's not usable.

In the upper levels of the vintage car world, being eligible for vintage racing and rallying make a car more valuable, precisely because it can be used more.

This is the "money no object" thread... Some of the posts reek of concern about returning your BMW with a couple door dents at the end of a lease

Beyond:. Where dream car discussions turn into a debate about depreciation. I'm waiting for the debate on whether you lease or cash buy your imaginary dream car.
