    95% of people don't need a 3080 or 3090. 95% of people don't even need the 3070.
MS Flight Sim 2020 in VR disagrees.

Seriously tho, if top end spec 2080 rig can hardly push 60fps in 1440p, what kind of frames are you going to get in HP reverb g2's 4K screen (2160x2160 per eye).

Jeez, so glad I didn't buy a 2080TI in March.

Hoping a 3080 will fit in my SFF PC and will run 5120x1440 at a proper framerate.

I wonder how the used market will shift and if the 1080ti will remain pound for pound best performance/$

Do want a 3080 to upgrade from 1080ti. Just need to wait for the ones with waterblocks.

I was going to say the same. In Digital Combat Simulator's hardware forums there are hundreds if not thousands of us all with 9900k/10900k CPU/2080ti systems, fighting and clawing for every FPS we can get to maintain 45fps in VR at various detail settings. Many users in that forum alone will be buying either the 3090 or 3080, as the new HP G2 VR HMD is coming out in a month or two as well.

It depends on the application, but I know many PC gamers that have the fastest hardware they can buy. Especially with VR - I have a couple of the current HP Rerverbs and with current CPU/GPUs available it's a struggle to maintain 45fps in several sims out there already.

3070 is on my wishlist. Sure, it will absolutely crush and be limited by my current CPU, but thats an upgrade for another day.

I would be on bleeding edge, if they actually made a VR headset that doesn't make me go crosseyed with a 74 IPD.

How do the new or old reverbs compare to the index.

lol you don't need a 3000-series card to play minecraft, fortnite, etc.

You guys rocking VR and flight sims are the 5% I was referring to.

Just base on reading specs, sounds like Index still better in tracking and refresh rate.

But HP Reverb G2 has better resolution.

Still waiting for review before jumping in next headset. Facebook killed Oculus now it requires Facebook login so time to switch out the headset and 1080Ti in one go.

You can't even play games like the current Call Of Duty on high settings at 1440P and 144Hz (very common setup) with a 1080Ti/2080. You need at least a 2080Ti for that. That's why I think the 3070/3080 will be more popular than the 5% you are assuming. Lots of other games are the same or even more demanding, excluding MS Flight Sim and VR.

Sorta my boat. Sure I can do fine at 1080p but kinda annoying to run the game at a lower resolution to keep the frames up. Usually when people say the game runs fine on lower hardware they're either content on low graphics or don't care about only having 30fps. My 1070 struggles with a lot of games nowadays, I'm very excited to upgrade to a 3070 eventually.

Yeah I have a 1080Ti and I have to turn down some settings to hit 144fps at 1440P in a basic FPS like COD MW. I think some people just don't realize how demanding many popular games are these days. 1440P @ 144fps is a very popular sweet spot for gaming.

Since the 3090 is technically a Titan card, I am hoping that in typical Nvidia fashion, a 3080Ti is still coming to be 90% as good as the 3090 but significantly cheaper. I guess we'll see. The 3080Ti (or equivalent) could also be the 3080 20GB that is supposed to come by the end of September, not sure yet.

Also, the 20XX series cards were honestly very underwhelming, often only being 20-30% faster (and in some cases barely any faster at all) than the 1XXX couterparts which is why I never upgraded. With Ampere it looks like they have come closer to doubling the performance, making it a much better value proposition.

This is probably the most reliable information out right now:

As long as the specs are legit im gonna pick up either a 3090 or a 3080 ti if one comes out. I saw this video and you can tell nividia had a lot to do with what he showed especially when it comes to frames per second. When they are showing tomb raider they couldn't hide the fps in the top left corner and the numbers seem low. With an overclock on my 2080ti xc I got at launch i'm hitting 65-75 frames same demo and only a i7 9700k. According to this the 3080 is hitting avg 79 but early drivers could be the issue.

They keep talking kuda cores and speed but im curious how much of that actually transfers to gaming. Definitely gonna wait and see some real benchmarks before I pull the trigger. I hope its all legit though because that 3090 8k will be insane (if an affordable monitor comes out) and judging by the pricing you will be able to get a lot of performance compared to 20 series if its legit. Curious what AMD is gonna counter with!

Couldn't agree more. Consoles will be on par if not just below the 2080 ti and 3070 if the specs are right. RTX on the 20 series eats frames
    I have a 2080 ti evga xc
my OC is +900 ram and +150 clock and its super stable
avg 150 fps 1440p with ultra and rtx on. Rtx off I get easy 175 plus.

Ton of 2080ti's already on the used market. Some as low as 600$ and probably will be flexible might be able to snag one for 500... now I'm kinda torn between a 3070 or a used 2080ti since I can prob get the used one a fair bit cheaper. Any word on Canadian pricing for the 3070? Guessing 650-700?

$500 USD for a 3070 so assume $649-$699ish CAD for a standard model (not a crazy water cooled one or whatever).

It should mirror current pricing for the 20XX series which range from around $600-800 for the 2070 Super depending on card type.

3080's should be around $1,000-$1,100ish CAD depending on the exact variant.

I'd just go Ampere if I were you. The 2080Ti is a particularly underwhelming card when compared to earlier models and compared to the performance jumps Nvidia has done in the past. It's not bad by any means, but the value proposition is one of the lower ones.
