I bet there’s constant headaches in terms of upkeep. Maintaining a regular house is enough work, can only imagine a floating one is twice as bad.

Yea it’s amazing how much structures don’t like moving or being shaked around.
Trailer on shore seems like a very worthy alternative lol.

Trailer park sounds like lower cost. Get one near the inlet and it's still got dat salt air.

I am no seismologist but wouldn't these be safer in an earthquake?
It sounds like a terrinle idea, unless you can afford a proper yacht, and dock. In which case you can afford real property in Vancouver.
It might be if you were't moored to a dock that woukd smash your boat to pieces. Along with the other boats smashing into each other. Oh, plus the tsunami that moves you to Abbotsford. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

No definitely not all of GVRD - but Richmond - yes. That place will turn into a sandbox and water instantly in an 8.0 or greater, shake. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Minimal tsunami risk in GVRD - unless an ancient fault in Georgia Strait ruptures as well. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The big fault is offshore of Tofino is the one thats overdue right now.
My wife and I used to frequent a bed and breakfast that was a floating house on the Fraser River in Ladner (other side of the tunnel heading south from Richmond). We always loved it! Super pleasant taking kayaks out right from your front door, sitting on the deck with a bottle of wine watching the fishing boats etc meander up and down the river, all the wildlife you never really notice on land, the sounds of lapping water etc were all amazing! Really it moved very little if at all most times, and the slight bit if a big boat went by was quite pleasant for me, but I do love being on the water any time. We seriously considered buying ourselves but with the kids being so young we were hesitant. Now though, I would do it in a heartbeat! Just like any house though, you have to find the right one in the right environment and not just a shitty spot with a crappy home. It definitely isn't for everyone, but I love it!

They are not in operation anymore unfortunately. They retired and sold it and the new buyers wanted to keep it strictly as a residence. It's too bad because we would still be going if it was running! We used to go at least a couple times a year for a few days at a time. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I used to think this would be an interesting thing to do for a year or two, then I lived in Marina Del Ray for a little over a year, on one of the peninsulas and got a close up look at what life was like living on a boat/house boat. While there were $50m boats in the marina, most of the boats were rickity pieces of shit that people were living on full time. Think trailer part on the water. Along the two-three rows of slips across from us, 25% were young people living the hippie life, 25% were people who had money and would stay there once or twice a week than go home to wherever they lived and 50% were middle aged or older people who did nothing but smoke weed all day and find small tasks around their home to pass time.
I would recommend you rent for a week or two and see if you like that lifestyle.
The house boat that the OP mentioned is also on the fraser river so I would think the tidal current would be reduced. My big thing would be, would I want to be that close to the airport. Ive always wondered how much trailer parks cost people who live there permanently, I recently sold some tires to a guy that lived in a trailer park in Canmore, he had a new bmw and a new mercedes which to me didnt fit the stereotype of trailer park people.
It just seems like a bad idea, but whatever floats your boat.
Do it OP. Take pics, let us know how it goes.
