Sony and Microsoft’s case, demand is way too high at the start of a new generation to supply. There’s only a small window between when the hardware is finalized and production starts until release day. It doesn’t make sense to have an insane amount of production capacity to meet all that demand on day 1 because it’s wasted capacity afterwards, so the first year is always brutal for inventory till supply catches up.
There’s also rumors that Sony has pretty poor yields right now. Sony quashed the rumor tho so who knows.

You would think having tons of extra consoles would pay off in year 1 games sales.

Apple used to do that with their phones. Send out small batches. Create their own shortage so it looked like it was more in demand then it actually was. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Would be interesting if I can grab more before the launch date. I'll need to let my credit card company know there's a lot of incoming charges around then. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I’m really hoping I can build my own NVME external that can interface with than expansion port.
That’s a complete joke, my One X library is currently 3.7TB. Installed.
A couple options that will help, 1 allow me to cache games on USB 3.1 that I can copy back over to internal. 2 M$ better enable gigabit game downloads.

That is ridiculous. As @killramos said, I really hope an adapter is available on the secondary market, that would allow me to plug my own SSD into it, because that price is over the top. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Just wait on the expansion options to grow. It’ll be a year before there’s enough series games that’s played regularly enough to fill 1gb.
There’s also rumors that the UI will get updated so you can automatically move regularly played games between usb3 and internal.

The problem is all the games I currently play, that once they get slapped with the Xbox Series X Enhanced logo, have to be played on the internal SSD.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Destiny, Halo MCC, Halo 5, Presumably CoD MW because of warzone, Gears 5, Forza Horizon. That’s probably 1TB+ right there.
As you as you are on series x those are going to be mandatory SSD games.

That's about right... The memory being used is a 1TB nvme PCIE 4.0. Going market rate is pretty close to $310 CAD at the moment for off the shelf equivalents. Price will come down in time but there's quite a premium on PCIE 4.0 nvme at the moment. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The cheapest PCI 4.0 NVME drive I can find is $230. $310 seems about right. But being half the cost of an Series X has me believing that M$ is losing money on each Series X they sell.

They always are, but in this case they are losing a lot of money for sure. That 12 TFLOPS RDNA2 chip cannot be cheap either.

It feels like the xbox gang is stronger than the ps gang on here.
I'll still buy one eventually when I require the extra space. The price isn't that out of wack really
(For the expansion card)

Maybe the PS gang has better games to play and doesn’t need to hang out on Beyond for entertainment. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I just want to go fragging sometimes.
Since it is a partnership with seagate I am guessing that there will only be the one brand but can hope others would be available. Probably pull the ssd out of my one x or something to use as an external drive to swap in and out instead for now. I am hoping the price doesn't take too long to come down as normal consumer drives slowly creep downward.
I'm still waiting for the B&O xbox headphones. Haven't heard anything since the announcement so I am guessing nothing until next year.
