Default Where can I get a simple metal bracket fabricated?

I need a bracket by Saturday to mount an awning on my roof rack. Unfortunately, they are totally sold out from the mfr and stock is months away.

This is what it looks like - would it be realistic to find someone in town who could make it?

I'd offer but my mill is down right now.. If you have one loose as a sample I'd bring it to Shoreline Fabrication or Aaron Machine Shop.

If you had an example bracket on hand it could be copied pretty easily with a waterjet and a welder. I'd guess you'd be looking at $200-300 but I haven't had anything made in ages. Cost depends a bit on material but it's mostly machinist hours.

Ah fuck - I'm naïve and figured it would cost around what they sell for from Rhino ($75)

Still interested, but if it's >$200 to make a bracket I might just deal with getting wet and/or sunburnt next weekend

If you can find a guy with a welder, that looks like it's something you could fab out of a couple pieces of flatbar.

Granted that's a WAG estimate and that's assuming you go to a machine shop to build a proper copy. A guy with a grinder and a clapped-out Bridgeport in his garage could probably make a reasonable facsimile for less. Again though, you'll need either an example of the bracket on hand or a good set of dimensions for anyone to make it for you. They wouldn't be able to help you much if you just rocked up with that photo.

Looks like some brake work involved not just holes slots and welding

Had Aaron’s make me something very similar for my boat trailer. $160, but my company has a big account with them so it may have been a deal. $200 would not be out of the question with that bend and fab work.

The original part definitely has a kink that was formed on a brake but nothing you couldn't ape with a couple of cuts and welds. Would just take longer.

For an awning roof rack i would say ok. Something load bearing not ok

Agreed, if this was carrying real weight I'd say stick to the original process.

I made a "simple" bracket for my neighbours brother last weekend. Center stand bracket off a KLR650. Apparently the part is unobtanium. Charged him $100. Took me 2 hours to make.

The "simple" part the OP is asking for should be worth $300+ unless you are working for nothing. I normally don't even touch my machines unless I am making $65/hr
Big investment in machinery and tooling to make something like this regardless if you are working with a mill and lathe or a waterjet. Doesn't make sense to me.

This is what I'm looking to achieve - would it be realistic to show up at a fab shop with my awning and truck and see if they can design something?

I have this exact roof rack, roof top tent and awning.

Could try fuse33 ... they have a metal shop and some cncs. It's more of a hobbyist place / DIY but they might have someone looking to make some coin and help yeah out.

A guy with a worn out bridgeport is going to spend a lot more time getting the part right. What is your time worth??

I scribd the original part onto his flatbar, center drilled and drilled to size the 2 small holes, made a custom .800 center punch out of ss, machined the large hole on my lathe and finished with my band saw and grinder. Forget measuring and making a drawing to cam into my cnc mill + i would have needed oversized material. What is my time worth?

FWIW - it doesn't have to be a replica of the original part, I just need it to perform the function shown in the pictures I posted above. The bracket could come out a couple inches further than the 'original bracket' and be a simple L bracket with two holes for the underside of the rack and two holes to mount the awning. In the pics, the guy had to play around with some additional spacers to get it to clear the side of the tent, but if it just comes out 9" then I can't see why it would need all the little bends in there.

Man I have no idea what you're replying to here. All I was saying is that if you want it done right it's going to be ~$200-300 (which was my WAG on pricing), if you want it done cheaper it's going to be made shittier. Your post seems to agree with that.
