    Default Racing Simulator Setup

    Ohayou gozaimasu gamers.

I am looking for a racing simulator setup to teach my niece and nephews how to best navigate Richmond traffic when they grow up. I prefer not to build another PC, but I can. Is PS5 the answer?
    Thrustmaster? What's a decent setup?

I use a Logitech G920 with a old G27 shifter and an XBONE with Forza 7. Everyone shits on it but I find after a lot of calibration and time (35000km in game driving) it’s quite good.

You're basically asking which one between Forza and Gran Turismo is better. Last GT I played was GT5 so I can't really compare between the two.
Hardware wise, you're looking at a G920/G29(depending on platform) and a Playseat.

Obvs PC would be better as you've got iRacing which is more of an actual sim than the console games.

I use a play seat,G920, with shifter, and my Xbox one x.

Forza isn’t really a sim. For that try Project cars or maybe asseto corsa.

PC is definitely “best” but I find that to be a hobby in and of itself, both Xbox and PlayStation are good. I personally give Xbox an edge but that’s just my preference.

Fanatec reals are for the red knobers if you want to go hardcore.

My main gripe with my setup is my play seat evolution has a lot of flex in it and the pedals are very stiff (bad combo). There are some online mods to fix this I haven’t bothered with.

Ivan "Ironman" Stewart is a well know driving instructor and this is the best learning tool.

    These look fun. https://www.playseatstore.com/playse...watch_id=13056
    AMG/Petronas is still cool, right?

I wonder if any of them have a massage option like in the old man cars.

    My Setup:
    Logitech G27 w/ shifter
    Old side table
    Kitchen chair.
    I only play Asseto Corsa.

Playseat was next on my list, but last time I checked their prices have skyrocketed in price during COVID. I'm not baller enough to spend $700 on a chair AND fertilize after each mow.

Most important aspect of Sim Racing = VR.

I have a CRG90 monitor (49" DQHD 5120x1440) and it's excellent for sim racing, but it doesn't remotely compare to VR. Using my Index is a game changer.

Get yourself a cheap setup to start. I nabbed a playseat w/ G29 combo including shifter for $500. The sim economy is mercurial depending on demand, so expect to pay up to $1000 for this same setup.

If you're not going to use VR, you'll want triple 27" screens or at least an ultrawide monitor. Narrow FOV when driving is whack.

    Good luck!

Agreed, I used to run 3 27" ROG Swift 4k 144hz monitors, but went to a single 34" and VR instead (gone through every VR headset and am using the Reverb right now, and waiting for preorders for the new G2 like everyone else). I play mainly cockpit based games for VR, DCS/various WW2 sims and a few racing/driving sims. VR makes a huge difference. I upgraded to Fanatec wheels/pedals/shifters earlier this year, huge difference there too, although the 2 setups I bought cost over 3500$ CAD alone after shipping/tax/duty.

Anyone I let try my driving setups or especially flight sim setups with VR is instantly wowed and sold.

You really just need to decide how seriously you want to take this whole “sim” thing.

As demonstrated you can spend an essentially limitless amount of money on it

I have a G27 sitting in my garage I'd get rid of for cheap. Tried posting it on kijij but realized I hate kijiji people.

    This sounds like the perfect setup for Deerfoot. $1500 computer + $1000 Reverb G2 + $129 Ikea Poang + $600 for a G923 + $100 for iRacing?
One more thing. Is this VR setup good for "other" things? Asking for SKR.

Edit. Found @Gman.45 's youtube channel.

I have a Play Seat + G25 but I will be upgrading to a Fanatec CSL Elite and probably a DOF Reality P3 hydraulic seat for GT7 whenever it comes out for the PS5.

Checking to see if I got this right.

    Seat: Playseat > Poang
    Joywheels/Shifter/Footrests: Fanatec > Logitech > Thrustmaster
Game: iRacing > Asseto Corsa > GT > Forza
    System: PC > PS5 > PS4 > Xbox One
    Screen: Reverb > 85" Samsung > 80" Sony Whore > Samsung 49" > 34" Ultrawide > 27" x 3

I find I use the paddles 99% of the time when playing those games, but you can get a clutch pedal for it.

For something compact, that still works fine and is easy to fold up and hideaway, I got this badboy
    https://www.playseatstore.com/playseat-challenge.html
I poorboyed it with a G920 on sale and use it on pc and xbox and it works pretty well for casual use.

IMHO Fanatec > Thrustmaster > Logitech
