I never thought I'd feel like a peasant running thrustmaster gear, and yet here we are, with Tom totally emasculating me.

With Forza Horizon 5 on the Xbox, been wanting to get a steering wheel for it. Is there an easy way to use a steering wheel setup while gaming on the sofa? Wife won't let me get a proper wheel stand .. so ideally something I can fold away during the day...

Tom, your setup is looking great.

I've added a formula style wheel to my setup. Went with the GSI FPE. Quality is top notch and has nice beefy handles on it. Overall diameter of 310mm.

You can definitely get some wheel stands that you could use from the couch. For example you could check these out.

I would think the biggest issue with this type of setup is keeping stand secure and not pushing away from you while using the pedals.

The bigger issue is that the handling model changes between steering wheel and controller in FH5. I’ve switched between the 2 on a single corner using rewind where the turn was easily flat out on controller, it understeers off the track like max Verstappen on a steering wheel. Tried tweaking settings with zero luck. On steering wheel I can only manage to be competitive in above average difficulty, and get absolutely dominated online. Controller, im winning highly skilled with ease and not dead last every race in online.

I’m hoping it gets patched. This wasn’t an issue in FH4. For now I’m just using the steering wheel when I’m racing solo to enjoy the drive.

Yea pedals was another thing. I had mine set to need pretty strong braking pressure, but turns out FH5 expects 100% brake application mapping to get 100% braking, which was never possible at the pressure levels I had set. Losing out boatloads of car lengths under braking. Dialed down sensitivity, enabled ABS, fixed. Small little quirks with a new game.

Anybody trying this in VR? I got Dirt 2 working on my Quest over air link but could never get past the nausea. Which sucks because the immersion was insane.

Also if anyone wants to buy a G29 (or a Quest 2 for that matter) I'll sell you mine, I tried but aforementioned nausea just killed the whole idea for me.

That's a great looking wheel, I really wanted something a little nicer than the Mclaren GT3 V2 wheel and still in a 300mm diameter but Fanatec doesn't currently have any other options. There's supposedly a fancy new BMW GT3 wheel with an updated quick release coming soonish so fingers crossed for that.

I used to use one of these leaned up against my couch and it did the trick. Didn't really have any issues with the pedals sliding back as it's leaning against the couch.

You can install these GSI wheels on a Fanatec base, just need to order a podium hub to the wheel.

I use an IKEA kitchen chair, a decade old velocity racer wheel stand and a miled out G920, and it gets the job done.

Ok everything arrived last night and I had a couple minutes to try it out. What settings are you using? Also what button mappings do you have for the GT cars?

Shoot me a PM with your email address and I'll send you over a spreadsheet with all my settings for both the wheel settings and the iRacing settings.

Can you post it in the SASC discord? I know you're in there.
