    Default Issues with receiver

So I bought a new tv for my mom and after connecting to her receiver I noticed that sometimes the sound comes on but no video, eventually the video shows up after waiting for a minute or so but turning the tv and receiver off and on again usually works and both video and sound turn on at the same time. The other thing is, when using the app on her tv to watch Netflix or Prime the sound does not go through the receiver and speakers only through the built in tv speakers. But when watching through the Shaw app it works fine. The Tv is a Sony, receiver is an older Pioneer. Tv and cable box connected via hdmi, speakers via banana plugs to the receiver not sure if that matters. Also, the Sony manual said to connect to the ARC input of the receiver and it is currently plugged in that way but doesn’t seem to make a difference. Thoughts?

You have to go into the TV and turn on ARC. I jave the same issue with the video not turning on, no idea how to fix that.

I checked and it was set to ON, so I reset it and that worked, thanks! Still can’t figure out the no video issue.

Your video just sounds like a handshake issue between the receiver and TV (having to wait for a picture). You can try a new cable, but it may also never resolve itself (if that's what it is).

Arc and CEC are supposed to be standards to make life easy but none of the devices knows how to play nice with each other. It's such a massive PITA to get everything connected working right. Only time it works well is if there's only 2 devices in the chain, ie TV and Streaming device, or TV and soundbar. Troubleshooting is impossible as someone really has to duplicate your setup to figure out how they're interacting with one another.

I hate both. That's all I have to contribute here. Good luck haha.

That’s what I was worried about, had a similar issue with an Onkyo receiver a few years back. I will try a different hdmi cable, thanks!

I have the newer version of the Pioneer receiver at home but it does not get used a lot but if it does crap out, I’m done with receivers and I’ll probably go with a sound bar down the road.
