    It's true though.

BMW used to be a cool car company. They literally do not make a single car that is top of its class.

If anyone wants an easy read on why BMW is circling the enthusiast drain, read Bob Lutz’s book Car Guys vs The Beancounters.

Some great stories about GM in the 90’s as they started making junk.

I have high hopes for this swan song M2 platform update, not confident enough to order one until details hit though . But you are not wrong.

It’s funny my parents have bought almost exclusively BMW since 2000 and when they shopped for a new vehicle last year BMW wasn’t even close to the top of their list. They didn’t even end up taking a test drive after talking to someone at Calgary BMW quickly.

    interesting point.

the parallels between current BMW and GM are pretty good. There are enthusiasts buried in the company, but they just have no power.

While I agree that these M cars look like garbage and that electric car is terrible, as is their social media... The 5 series as an entire lineup and the m340 are pretty awesome looking / performing cars IMO

The problem is that the best cars they make are still never better than second best in their class.

Is the m5 really that far off the e63?

The m cars ability to go full RWD definitely earns them a big bump in my books

    E63 can do that too.

But I agree with you that saying the E63 is definitively better than the M5 is a dubious claim at best.

But I have minimal faith the 5 series decent looks will survive another refresh.

I would take the Rs6 or the E63 over the M5. I like the M5, but it's not first place for me.

All three are close by any measure, I’d take the BMW.

I always forget about that RS6, easily my favorite audi. I just automatically put any Audi in 3rd place compared to BMW and Merc haha

    Yeah, it's a preference thing.

But BMW, making so many cars, the best we can say is they are in the conversation in on or two classes.

    It's depressing.

Haven't we now heard from 2+ people that the RS6 does not look anywhere near as awesome as its pictures?

It makes me happy to see you write this... I was worried for a while when you kept spelling "full size SUV" X-7... It's spelled G-L-S

    I’ve driven the RS6, E63s & M5c

The RS6 was by far the worst car of the bunch. Big & bulky, confusing interior and controls & a mundane ride.

The E63s was nice, super modern interior, extra flashy, but the ride was harsh & the exterior looks dull.

The M5c was by far the most powerful and the most fun to drive. The interior isn’t as flashy as the Merc, but very functional. The exterior is by far the nicest of the 3 and offered the most versatility to make it custom.

Best approach is to drive the cars and pick which fits you best. If you are spending over $100k for a car, make sure you enjoy driving it.
