I like a lot of the young players the ducks have. That team will be good in a few years if they can keep them all. Steel, Comtois, Terry, Drysdale, Zegras etc

Thing is, they landed some free agents and tried to be good but quickly found out they weren't so they went into rebuild.

Sure would be nice for the Flames to try that.

I don't see the Ducks as throwing in the towel. They have a few decent players that they could've traded for valuable younger players & picks if they were truly giving up. Plus, they're in a division with San Jose and LA which have not done well recently, so there was a reasonable opportunity for them to put forth a decent effort this year and pick up enough points to consider playoffs.
The way the top 3 in the West have run away with things, that still wouldn't have happened but I don't think that was in their crystal ball at the start of this season.
Whatever conjecture and hindsight etc. I'm not here to argue that.

Like did you just start following the Ducks yesterday? They fired Carlyle in 2019, the team sucked back then, with the way the NHL is structured it's best just to tank than hope to squeak into the playoffs only to get your ass reamed.

They have a zillion up and comers, some of them will probably pan out. Like half their roster is ELC.

I'm not really following the Ducks. I'm not sure if I've only mentioned it twice by now, but my thesis is that Dallas Eakins sucks and no one should hire him.

I'm a long way from an NHL GM; but, if I was trying to sewer my team in Anaheim, I wouldn't keep Getzlaf while I also added Shattenkirk and kept a highly competent goaltender.
