The green balls dropping out was hilarious. We ended up watching happy Gilmore right after that since it didn’t look like anything was going on.

Easy to armchair it, but I don't understand why they wouldn't set the ice to 10°C below the target temp in any/all outdoor games where rain or heat is a remote possibility. Once the game starts, go ahead and drop the extra refrigeration, but get that shit frozen hard to give a larger buffer.
Still recognizing that colder ice had its drawbacks, it's a better scenario than today's cluster.

It’s not ambient temperature. The sun’s rays has a lot of energy that just fucks the ice surface up away from the refrigeration. Think of a cold -10C day, completely sunny, the snow and ice on your driveway still melts. We have the same problem at our lake, the ice becomes incredibly soft even if it’s cold out when the sun is beating on it all day.

For sure, but the lake isn't actively being cooled like a rink. There is the ambient air temp, which shouldn't matter because like you said, the radiant heat from the sun is warming the top surface of the ice.
They should be able to combat that warmer top ice by over-cooling the bottom ice surface and driving that heat transfer to where it can be removed.
Although... That sun is essentially an infinite source of radiant heat... Maybe an extra -10deg on the ice still wouldn't make a difference.

*The ambient was quite warm there, I think +5°C, but we're both right that it's the radiant heat causing the issues.

I like the retro predecessor jerseys but I think Calgary should be wearing Atlanta Flames, Phoenix should be wearing Winnipeg and Winnipeg should be wearing Atlanta Thrashers.
    All or nothing, LoL!

Apparently it was where there were coloured logos. Heat absorption.

Ha! I fully expect him to be back in a few years. How many French speaking coaches can they cycle through before he's at the top of the list again? He'll be back for round 3 after Michel Therrien is re-hired and re-fired again.

Kind of surprising though. I thought the Habs were doing well this season.

Haha that reminds me, he was in a video to introduce Avangard Omsk's new jersey last year and it was pretty cringeworthy.

Bob may have been a terrible person, but he was good for the quotes anyway. Plus has has that Jack Adams trophy on his mantle.

Haha I having nothing but good things to say about Bob Hartley. He became a good customer and was very kind and easy to talk to while he was coaching in town. One day he was in picking up some new boots and he asked who my favourite flame was. Giordano I said. He said I'm gonna bring you a Gio jersey. I said thank you for the offer but I had actually just received one from my wife for Christmas. The next day he brings in a game used and signed stick from Gio for me. Pretty nice guy. He even gave me some of his personal tickets to use for some home games!

It pains me to say it, but the Leafs appear at this time to be a complete, competitive team.

You think everyone's favorite whipping boy TJ Brodie is happier to be there rather than the current dumpster fire in Calgary?

I hope so. As a Leaf fan this is fun to watch. However I am not sure how we will be stacked against the other power houses.

When he signed with the leafs one of my Flames friend said to me that he is 'Ok', not that great.
Based on what this guy has done so far he is more than ok to me.

I have been making fun of the leafs since I was a child. As did my father before me, and his father. However, it truly appears they have a competitive team this year. I am shook.
