Looking at the available players list... Seattle has so many good players to choose from. GM Ron Francis has the greenlight to spend to the cap, so he can build a fairly decent team right out of the gate. It's too bad he can't pillage Tampa's roster since he can only pick one player.

Moving on from Gio's cap hit is good news, if they're able to utilize it elsewhere.

Moving on from Gio's minutes is not good news. Guess we get to see if Hanafin is ready to take a step and become a full time 1/2 defensemen. Flames will struggle without Gio for sure.

Also losing Gio for nothing is pretty poor asset management by Treliving. Considering the level of players picked off 90% of the teams (ie: B/C level prospects that will never pan out or depth dmen) the player selected from Calgary is near the top of the value list IMO.

Also sounds like Seattle is flipping Gio to the Rangers.... to play with Fox... double kick to the nuts right there.

Trading Gio last year before the trade deadline would have been better, but this isn't awful. Gio is an amazing human, but we can take that money and get 2 good and one league minimum guys that will eat the minutes. Seattle is going to flip him anyway.

Looking at the expansion roster. Gio is one of the top players they've drafted. That's bad asset management. Since you can see it from a mile away and plan for it. I hate to say it, but look at what Toronto was able to do and basically lost someone for nothing. Or even Edmonton.

Agree, should have been trading Gio in-season last year. Could have gotten picks that would not have needed protection, and given playing time to youngsters who . . .wouldn't have needed protection.

Agree to disagree, but every GM was in the same boat, and there weren't many teams able to take on a 38 year old D man making nearly $6.75 mil.

Cap space is king the last couple years.
