    Default Best mid-sized pickup?

Was having an interesting discussion with some mates. Unless you're in construction or regularly require the extra size/space/usage and what not aren't 1/4 ton pickups much better options as daily drivers than half tons or bigger? I know so many people that own pickups and don't have any actual use for them (job doesn't require or need the space on the regular) and they still prefer to have 1/2 tons over mid-sized ones for day-to-day city driving.

There are so many good options; Colorado, Ranger, Tacoma, Canyon and probably some I am missing. As much as I like the Raptor, the Colorado ZR2 seems to be a better 'Raptor' for daily use if someone was in the market for something like that, no? What's with the fascination of bigger trucks? Are mid-sized ones considered feminine or something and that's why guys avoid them?

EDIT: Messed up on the title - could have had a better one for the topic. lol.

I drive a HD truck daily (for the last 22 months) and wish I could get a ZR2 to replace it. I like all trucks, and get to drive so many that I find the best and worst of each brand. I wouldn’t feel any less manly driving a quarter ton.

One of the reasons that "full size" trucks have gotten so popular is that they are amazing family vehicles. Best back seat in ANYTHING for families with 1-2 kids. Plus a lot better value than the larger SUV's as well. Agree they are harder to park than a smaller vehicle.

The problem that I've found is that even a top of the line "small" truck (Ranger, Colorado, etc.) simply feel cheap and cramped inside. The price tag to buy full size isn't much different and resale is easier. I WANT to like smaller trucks but it just doesn't add up.

Bingo. Smaller truck, smaller cab, and almost equal price. It's a no brainer, especially when you factor in resale. Biggest reason I have a F150 is the cab space. That was the single biggest selling point for me. But then again, I use my truck as a truck, and also daily drive it. @baygirl refuses to drive it because she thinks it is so big, but, I don't find it difficult to park or drive anywhere in the city at all.

Yup F150 cab space is awesome. As I am sure lot of others that sized trucks are the same. You can fit 4 people in the back in a fix even.

Though, I am not sure I agree you get the same money for money worth going mid-sized vs full size. The ZR2 for example, is around $50-$60K give or take. It's fully done up from the factory to be an off-roder. Like I said, a mini Raptor. Sure you can get a 'full size' pickup for the same amount, but that'll likely be a relatively bare bone version of the same. So not quite Apples to Apples. You could compare there ZR2 to the Raptors as an even in-class comparison, but then we are talking about a $30K-$40K price difference.

Serious? I didn't look at it as I always thought they weren't easy on the eyes. But the the ZR2's off-roading appearance appeals to me and Bronco is still a couple years out before it's gonna be easily attainable.

If you hunt around you’ll find a crew cab V6 ZR2 can be had for low to mid 40s with the right incentives too. I also found the back seat to be larger than the Ranger and much much larger than a Tacoma.

Feel free to link me if you come across something like that.

This is about the range that I am seeing with some half-decent options.

The best on the market right now, IMHO is the ZR2 Colorado. Badass build... Though, would all change if/once the Ranger Raptor comes to Canada... Wishful thinking!

Though, would agree and go with a full size over a 1/4 ton, still nimble enough around the city - not like you're driving a super-duty or something ridiculous. In my last job, my work truck was a F350 super duty, and living downtown made for lots of uncomfortable situations.
Nearly the same price, way better options in the full size market...
I think the 1/4 ton's will get there, just not there yet. IE the XLT Ranger's really aren't a fun ride.

You’d be looking at a 2020 not a 2021, and I found smaller town dealers had more inventory and more price reductions on ZR2 when I was looking.

That thing is perfect for Shak. It's probably the most badass looking truck, and simply wheels and tires and it's amazing.

Trackhawk but get some westerner seat covers because the interiors lack symmetry.

Good idea. The westerner seat covers are like interior vehicle camo.

I actually hate the Gladiator. I think it's absolutely ridiculous looking.
