Heard a member here say Calgary had a comparable climate to "Hoth" and another refer to it as "a frozen wasteland". I've always figured Calgary had a pretty mild and livable climate.
Poll for amusement too.

Overall it's pretty good IMO. We get a ton of sunny days, not a lot of wind, and the number of days that the (main) roads actually have snow on them are low. Lots of chinooks seem to come through too.
I could do without the -30C winter deepfreezes but that's typically only 1-2 weeks per year.
I think my biggest complaints would be the hail and the extreme variability of Summer/Fall weather.
Where's the option for "Calgarians just like to complain"?
If you work outside for a living, its a shitty place. If you work inside, its tolerable. If you love winter sports, its awesome. If you don't, it fucking sucks. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Im in the works outside/dont do winter sports categories. Though my only solid complaint is the wind. -20 is totally bearable unless its windy, and its always fucking windy here. I don't care that it brings in chinooks. Chinooks just make it hard to dress for the day working outside. They're only good if they stay long enough to completely melt the ice off the road.
I would say as a general statement I don’t hate the weather in Calgary, at least it’s not trying to actively kill us like... what? 3/4 of the states?

Pole doesn't include the wait 5 minutes option..calgary weater is great, until its not.
Last year sucked, this year's been mostly indoors, but 3 weeks ago we went from what: like +22 to nearly 0 to plus 17 again over a 5 day stretch or something ridiculous
If Calgary is the benchmark and after spending many winters in Winnipeg and Prince Albert Sask. Then yes our winter weather is great. Summers, considering this is Canada and not Texas is also great.
I do not want to live anywhere that is -30*C or +30*C for weeks on end. That shit sucks. But to get 2 weeks in January and August to be in those ranges. Again, not bad at all.
I generally like Calgary weather...low humidity and overall cooler is a plus for me! The fall used to be pretty consistently awesome but they have sucked the last few years. Hopefully this year can redeem.

The variability and instability make it kind of shitty. The chance of freezing rain in the winter is extremely undesirable. The chance of crippling hail in the summer is also bad.
I think most people like consistency. San Diego has that in spades and Calgary doesn't. Edmonton has the main features of Calgary weather in terms of average highs/lows, rainfall and snow, yet very little of the inconsistency.
People (from Calgary) will lose their bananas hearing this, but it's true. It gets hot there and stays hot then it gets cold and stays cold. Changes are accurately predicted and come in over a period of days, not hours. Plus, there is a noticeable trend of rain at night when you're asleep and don't give a shit.
I don't miss that agonizingly dry air, though. (Except when it's -25°C...)
Absolutely, Edmonton gets much more consistent weather than here. Also it's much lower in altitude so the nights in summer are much warmer.
I agree Edmonton has much more stable weather. I just can't deal with that winter.

I have never heard anyone have anything good to say about Edmonton’s weather before.
Something new every day I guess.

Our summers are perfect - not too hot and not too cold. Winters suck, but at least we get chinooks. So i'm going with Great.

I like the individual pockets of weather we get in Calgary, my gripe is how frequently it changes. The ol adage of "if you don't like the weather wait 10 minutes" gets really annoying for planning anything or even trusting what the weather outlook is for that day. Nice days are nice, cold days are cold. I have no problem with those. I wish we got a bit more snow but its not a deal breaker.
When I lived in Saskatoon it got cold as fuck but you saw the weather change coming for 2-3 days and all the changes were gradual.

I like our weather. Even throughout the winter when it's cold it's often clear and sunny. -15C but sunny? Cool we can still do a winter hike.
Everyone thinks Vancouver is better but fuck the constant rain
Seriously winter is depressing as shit there and you wanna stay inside anyways.
After living in the maritimes for a few years again recently, sign me up for Calgary weather
As a car enthusiast who keeps his cars CLEAN, I would say our summers are AWESOME due to hardly any rain (grew up in Vancouver where it would rain and ruin your new wax job EVERY time without fail)...but the winter SUCK due to Chinooks that ruin your clean ass car...compared to a place like Winnipeg where it STAYS cold, your car would be clean all the time no? (no dirty water to wash up on your clean car because everthing stays frozen on the ground).
