We always do real and the more Charlie Brown style the better. Best tree we had was a few years back because it even came with an actual bird's nest in it.

We usually just put up a small 3' tree. It has all the ornaments my son made over the years, and is more of a nostalgic tree. Our 7' tree just went up for the first time in years, as we typically don't bother as we always spend Christmas with family in BC, but it doesn't look like that will happen this year. Bought that tree maybe 25 years ago and its still going strong.

Ikea usually sells real trees for $20, so for $900 you could have 45 years if the price remains the same

But depends on you, I enjoy the smell and look of a real tree, I hate the needles making a mess though... alternatively I hate trying to get the damn tree back in the box for artificial and having to store it for 350 days

Went this route this year. $25 IKEA tree.....and you get a $25 IKEA Gift Card when you buy it...so win/win. Get a real tree, for pretty much nothing.
