    This is true. Ontario is very different from Prairie Provinces. But does give a nice outlook of how the country is fooked.

    New changes to housing in Canada for the upcoming budget were announced. Here's a summary, copied from Reddit though so not entirely sure if accurate:
    • Banning corporate ownership of SFH’s
    • Allowing developers of purpose built rentals to write off 10% of capital costs
    • Removal of GST on construction
    • Lease (not sell) public land for housing
    • Offering low cost loans for homeowners to build additional suites
    • Low cost loans for prefabricated homes
    • Simplifying the building code to reduce red tape
    • Encouraging people to enter the skilled trades
    • “extend” the ban on foreign buyers till 2027
    • Creating a new tool with the CRA and mortgage industry to verify income to combat mortgage fraud where people qualify for higher mortgages than they should (shout out to the Brampton mortgage lmao)
    • Removing tax deductions for short term rentals
    • 903M for the Greener Homes retrofitting program that will bring down the cost of heating a home

    I for one look forward to the federal government replacing my windows and giving me an interest free loan and grants to built a new “suited” garage.

    And all the local AHJ's will still red tape everything to stall development. I'd argue that nearly every developer would say this is the #1 reason why construction take so long and costs so much.

    And #2 would be finding enough subtrades/workers... but I guess they can just keep immigration high to bring more worker in.... oh wait...
