Schneider was also great (made all star) before he got hurt and was never the same after.
Tanev is not that good, but he is a heart and soul player...we are severely lacking in that department. He's a lateral move from Hamonic.
I wish there was a way to land Tofolli
Tanev is good when healthy. Blocks shots and with a decent glove hand. RHS is nice too.
Mark down another Vancouver goalie coming this way

Tanev is easily one of the top 10 defensive defensemen in the league. He plays his position very well. He's smart and is almost always in the right spot defensively. He has little regard for his own body while doing so. That's great, until he gets injured. Which happens often.
He doesn't contribute much in scoring either. He isn't bad with the puck, but is a very meat and potatoes kind of player and is rarely creative.
He's tough, but isn't a physical player.
He's a great leader and a good guy. Good role model that works his ass off every single game.
So the contract: In a flat cap world it isn't ideal, and some may balk at 4.5 for a guy who rarely scores, but his defense is really very good so I guess it depends how much you value that. If Calgary manages to get close to a full four seasons of Tanev, I think 4x4.5 is a reasonable contract. But I would be very surprised if he plays even an average of 60 games a season, and I also wouldn't be surprised to see his injuries and playing style catch up with him at some point later in the contract. It was for these reasons Vancouver moved on. Certainly nothing to do with him, nor his current ability.
Pretty much similar reasons Vancouver let Marky walk. Time will tell how either of these contracts age.
I don't think Vancouver let Marky walk. They simply didn't have Lord Zebulon on their side.
Tanev is like a much better Kris Russell. Kris Russell is one of Edmonton's 6 Giordanos. Therefore Tanev is at least one Giordano.
Had to look that reference up.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
They didn't let him walk, exactly. But they were not prepared to pay that dollar or term. Especially with Demko, and the upcoming expansion draft. I do think a deal could have been had, but it didn't make sense for either side.
Happy he got paid.
If tanev is a top 2 defenseman on any decent team, that deal is fine.

Would be interesting to see how Brodie holds up in Toronto. Everyone of Gio's partner gets better. Brodie got exposed hard when he wasnt partnered with GIO. either way. best of luck to TJ, he's always been one of my favorite player.
I'm happy to get some new blood into the system, might provide a bit of a kick with adding some new bodies to the room and having a few core guys leave. I like Brodie but fine with him leaving, we all wanted to trade him a season ago as his play was pretty shit, will be interesting to see if he sinks or swims without Gio
Petterson and Hughes are coming up to the end of their entry level contracts. The Canucks need the money. The let Markstrom go because he was insisting on a no trade clause. Re-signing him would have forced the Canucks to expose Demko at the expansion draft which they aren’t willing to do.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

When even the Edmonton media says the only risk on the flames new players is at the tail end of the contracts, I think we did okay.
